Yes yes it's still November. I'm not one for starting the Xmas celebrations before mid December but this was released today and it's a brilliant advert. Played to the wonderful tune of Half The World Away by Oasis (although not performed by them)

Check it out. If it doesn't pull at your heart strings I don't know what will

It actually brought me to tears, the man in the moon is the image of my ex father in law, he was a very special person and will hold a place in my heart forever. He passed 16 years ago but I'd be still married if he was around????

Absolutely fantastic ad and does what's it's supposed to. Makes u think of ur family and of the elderly who are so often forgotten.

I have to say I love the Christmas ads, well the ones who make the effort. Saw the aldi one earlier and thought it was very good too. Looking forward to the morrisons one with ant and dec.

Perhaps I am a complete softy, but yes,it had me in tears,I think between the complete innocence of the little girl, and the haunting emotion in the singers voice, along with the sadness of the topic, there isn't a person who wont feel that advert play with their emotions. Will it draw shoppers to john Lewis???? Who knows. But perhaps it will bring a crack of humanity to peoples hardened existences

Totally irresponsible on John Lewis to put an old guy on the moon with no spacesuit. He could have got his death of cold.

Still prefer last years Lilly Allen's cover of Keane. The bear and the rabbit animated video. Remember that?

It's a very well made ad, it pulls at the heart strings alright.

For me, I've been both, the little girl trying to get through to someone but they're just so distant it feels like you're never going to be able to, but if you keep trying different ways you'll eventually figure a way.

And the old man, living in his own bubble that he can't excape, lonely, completly cut off from everyone else, resigned to his sistuation until someone takes the time to cut through, and it's so powerful cause it opens up a whole new world when it does.

Cripes, we are not yet in double digit days in November, and already TV is awash with Christmas adds. Mad.

Ads are now all about emotion and no longer about informing. The Guinness ads don't even have a pint in them.

Saw it and cried like a baby

It breaks my heart to think of elderly people alone and having no-one call on them. All they really want is company and someone to talk to about the "good old days".

"Ads are now all about emotion and no longer about informing. The Guinness ads don't even have a pint in them. "

John Lewis used this ad to send a powerful message, thousands of elderly people are suffering daily from crippling lonliness.

If only a few people watch the ad then respond by calling on an elderly neighbour, getting involved as a volunteer in befriending services ect then the ad has worked.

the little girl should have used a laser pointer to get the old dudes attention instead of a bow and arrow also how did the balloons make it to the moon ?

So many scientific inaccuracies in this ad, is this the message we want to send to our children this christmas?

It's a beautiful ad much like last year's with the penguin. That was delightful.

For me it will be when the Barry tea radio ad plays for the first time. It must be 20 years old now but when it starts and I'm driving alone I have to pull in to dry the tears in my eyes

I have to agree it's a great advert and a reminder that it's the time of the year where people can feel isolated or forgotten.

Did I not get this advert. It just reminded me that my dad is not here to share Christmas with me again. I miss him. I wish he was still alive. All this advert did for me is remember that I have loved ones no longer here. WHY THE MOON. Why could he not be somewhere and all the family come and visit and show him happy having a fantastic Christmas.

So for us. No. Not impressed. I want to see warmth and fun. Check out the advert with the BIG COOKIE and the muppets. That made me laugh. I do not want to be depressed at Christmas. I want it to be fun and enjoyable.
