The diesel ruse is nearly up...

There are rumours diesel cars are going to be banned from some city centres in the UK.

If vw are at it then there could be a few other companies doing the same. A very big can of worms might have just been opened

if they ever ban diesel cars from a city it will about 100 years after they first ban petrol cars, petrol are still far worse on emissions than diesel! Amazing statement that..... Mind boggler.

VW installed a cheat on 11m diesel cars and will pay the price, 6.1bn is the estimate, shares down 20% on trading today.

Do you mean like in Paris where they have said by 2020 diesels will be barred from the city centre?

Paris is in the UK?

China's demand for diesel cars is immense too, why? Because they are trying to meet emission quotas and reduce smog in cities.

petrol gives off more carbon dioxide and monoxide.

the greens didn't make diesel cheaper to tax on cars in Ireland for nothing, extensive studies show which is worse.

personally I'd like to see both off the road by 2050, alternatives are there now and the time has come for society to cop on to global warming.

It was just coincidence it hit vw first, technically any diesel from vw group, so seat, Audi, skoda, all the same.

The French did this already many years ago with their fap filters, so did merc. No surprise really.

170bhp out of a 2.0 engine with little or no emmissions?

Will the tax rates for these cars have to be changed to reflect the reality now. Buddy of mine has a 12 Passat. 2.0D. Pays €200 per year in tax.

I think its time to develop the electric car. Far easier on the planet in general. Less wars too.

Very good point Frankie, which begs the question, what kind of ejit was paying tax for petrol when this great discount is available?

Cheaper at pumps per litre, more miles to gallon and cheaper tax! Long may it last....

London seems to be leading the way regarding electric transport. Currently trialing an electric bus.

My thoughts exactly.

I have a 3 month old golf gtd, thankfully it's leased so I don't care if the second hand value plummets. I couldn't work out how the lease price was so cheap, can only be due to strong residuals of 2 year old vw cars , so there's a lot of lease companies going to get burned if the values do drop.
