A few highlights found from analysing the Ashley Madison hacked database...

AM has 31 milliin male accounts, and 5.5 million female ones..

'the more I examined those 5.5 million female profiles, the more obvious it became that none of them had ever talked to men on the site, or even used the site at all after creating a profile. Actually, scratch that. As I’ll explain below, there’s a good chance that about 12,000 of the profiles out of millions belonged to actual, real women who were active users of Ashley Madison'

'There were about 10 thousand accounts with ashleymadison.com email addresses. Many of them sounded like they’d been generated by a bot, like the dozens of addresses listed as 100@ashleymadison.com, 200@ashleymadison.com, 300@ashleymadison, and so on'

'About two-thirds of the men, or 20.2 million of them, had checked the messages in their accounts at least once. But only 1,492 women had ever checked their messages'

'Roughly 11 million men had engaged in chat, but only 2400 women had'

'Overall, the picture is grim indeed. Out of 5.5 million female accounts, roughly zero percent had ever shown any kind of activity at all, after the day they were created'

OK.. you know this affair site that was hacked. Someone downloaded the data that was put on the internet. They analysed the data. They figured out that statistically 0% of the active users were women, and 100% were men. That means less than half a percentage women.

It also looks a lot like many of the women on the site have Ashley Madison internal email addresses with non-resident names. This means they fake female user accounts to make the numbers look better.

No. It's a real site. Women just weren't interested in using it and so the site faked up some women.

Some of those interpretations don't add up just alone from a mathematical point of view:

Just a little thought...1492 females have ever checked their mails and 2400 were engaged in a chat??? How did those 908 women chat if they never checked their mails?

And that's not the only thing that doesn't make sense...

At least here the fake profiles are just created by saddos/losers/gobshites with nothing better to do.

AM, BeNaughty etc allow clearly fake profiles created by bots to be active and dupe users into parting with their hard earned.

I had a look at the article quoted. It's a journalist who tried to get another round out of the AM crash. Statistics and interpreting figures should be left to those who have the skills. The figure of 12'000 real women she puts forward is based on the fact that 12'000 have paid to delete their accounts as this is the only hard figure she has.

All the other figures are based on some sort of assumptions and the site activity figures of man - woman checking mailbox, replying, chatting etc. don't add up and she tries to explain that with the AM auto response.

All she demonstrates and proves is that the ratio men-women was highly imbalanced - nothing new there - and that AM made up 10000 or maybe some more fake profiles, actually a quite low figure in comparison to the member figures.

And of course it's all over the media again as they just love those stories...

While I'd agree with a lot of that, stats like 'only 1,492 women had ever checked their messages' are hard to argue with.

It's one scandal that a high profile website is hacked and has its entire database downloaded.

It's an entirely different area of interest that it appears that greater than 99% of the active users on the site were male.

It's another scandal again that the site themselves may have created thousands of fake profiles on their own systems.

I'd say it's newsworthy personally.

Women never had to pay to join ashley madison , its only men who needed to purchase credits to interact on there . The only verifiable details for female profiles are gleaned from data where a woman wanted a total delete of her info from their system , which would mean she had to pay to have the infor removed , but not pay to join or interact , so those figures quoted might not be actually accurate and just showing those who used a credit card to remove their profile .

As midnight said women didn't need to register with a credit card as the free aspect was used by the site to lure women on they only had tp pay to have details removed. where as men are in plenty supply so it made its major money off them going on the figures of 11 million men and 2400 women would have had the women walking around with matresses strapped to their backs

I thought the AM site owners were mailed and told to take down the site because of this. That basically the majority of women users didn't exist and that the male users were being duped out of money for a service that didn't have the female users it advertised. AM site owners refused and the hackers did what they said they would do and reveal the e-mail ads of their users. I didn't get the impression the hackers were out to name and shame but only to highlight the behind the scene false advertising for gain.

It could be a disgruntled site user or maybe someone not connected to AM but clever enough just to sit back and prove that the majority of female members don't exist. I've a feeling other sites that run in the same manner will be a little panicked.

Taking the only precise figure of members having paid to delete their profile, the ratio men - women is 14% which would be in line with that quoted above and most likely the ratio of active members +- a few percent.

All the other figures are to vague to make any useful conclusions respectively doubtful in general as they are created by programming loops which are prone to programming flaws, while a payment is a fact.

I'd imagine the guys were sending message after message to the small number of women on the site. Probably a lot of these women were inactive (and some totally fake) profiles.

I'm sure the truth about the number of real active female profiles lies somewhere in the middle. The only ones who have full access are the site themselves and they have proven to be totally untrustworthy.
