Absolutely appalling, the guy deserves to be punished.

The day a lion can wander around with a rifle slung over its shoulder, then the game is fair.

I think there is a lot of outrage over human deaths, I mean look what happened because a balcony fell, or some got shot on a beach.

Sure some deaths dont get noticed, but you cant be crying non stop you have to live.

As for killing a lion. It's the most cowardly act a human can do. Lions dont run away, they sit in shade, they will come over th jeeps to get shade. "Hunters" just drive up in a jeep and shoot them. All of the lions children will now die and thats sad because cecil would have been an alpha lion for generations.

I haven't bought a paper In years.

All negative.

That was discusting killing that beautiful creature.

It's rare that's why it was so shocking. as for that excuse for a man.... Words fail me. People kill each other all the time. We are just immune to that now

Lions and other big game have been hunted and killed by cunts long before Cecil, its annoying how celebs are now jumping on the bandwagon, is it coz the lion had a name??? Remember gorillas in the mist??? Poaching is around a loooong time..maybe if the celebs, such as Arnie, gave some of their millions to stop it instead of posting tripe on Facebook it may help...

Yes it is disgusting. But it's no different to the terrier work fox hunting that goes on here. At least the big cats etc usually just get killed with a single shot. Not mauled apart first.

People do care and do express their outrage over human deaths and voilence against humans but because there are incidents every other day we cannot bombard social media day in day out. The killing of the lion was such a rare act it made the headlines and moreso because he had a name and was on a tracker, and also because of the insane money that exchanged hands. Sick bastard. I'd be inclined to think that if people had this kind of cash at their disposal they would find other ways of getting a thrill.

Personaly, I'm very much against hunting for sports, I find it disgusting and outragious, and no longer of this time.

I find it nearly equally disgusting that the only reason this story is big news is because the lion killed happened to be famous, and people taking matters in their own hands based on what's put out there instead of letting justice take its course and waiting for all the facts.

Let's be honest here, this is ONLY a story because it's Cecil the lion, it wouldn't have even registered had it been any other lion.

I agree it shouldn't matter just because it was Cecil. All lions should get the same media attention.

Lions are listed as vulnerable IUCN red list, it's population having declined by up to 50% in the last 20 years.

It's vital that we ban all hunting and provide better protection from poachers because in another 20 years we may not have lions

I'm passionate about conservation, I did a project on the Asiatic lion and it's status about 2 years ago and it's sad to say that these will definitely go extinct if we don't tighten our international cross border laws worldwide and increase breeding programs as well as reintroduction programs

I don't know why someone would kill a lion for fun????? He's a stupid man but I hear on the news etc he's been subject to a lot of rough justice. His family members are under constant abuse and his dentistry business has been boycotted.

I'm not sure what the hell he was thinking but two wrongs don't make it right.

There are a lot of people suffering in the world and they don't review this scale of media attention.

That's my 10p worth anyway.

as someone who used to hunt a lot when I was younger mainly rabbit deer duck pheasant etc and I would shoot foxes as pest control. the idea if hunting for sport is sickening especially when the animal is shot with an arrow and sufferers then stalked then shot with a handgun to put it out of its misery. as someone mentioned fox hunting with hounds and hare coursing are just as bad. all trophy hunting and blood sports should be banned.

Around 600 lions are killed every year for trophies.

I think there should be 600 public outrages and 600 convictions every year but there's not.

I think what got people most was the lion was a treasure of Zimbabwe. The fact that the dentist paid for the pleasure of hunting him in a reserve where hunting the animals is against the law. What he did was poaching end of and i hope that he is jailed for the pleasure of paying a ridiculous amount of money, destroying his business and shaming his family worldwide was worth the hunt and the money it cost him

To the op. Humans are animals too, it's just we are not endangered like lions are, yet.

It's an appalling act killing any animal for sport, committed by an appalling individual that doesn't even qualify as a human being and rightly deserves the title of most hated man in the world of 2015.

Meanwhile hundreds are drowning every week in the Indian Ocean trying to escape war and no one seems to give a shit.

Only this week the Irish navy boarded a make shift boat and found 14 people including children crushed to death. 1 or 2 news articles and all is forgotten again. A lion named Cecil gets shot and the whole world goes crazy. Funny world we live in all the same

It is not stupid, people react to a sutuation, they see another human in difficulty, so they rush in to save that persons life.

The same reason why people go into burning buildings to save others ect.

Fear can stop some from reacting, but your gut instinct is to save lives.

Sure a dog can swim, I've put my one life at risk to save my friends brother when he feel into the sea, absolutely stupid what I did but I'd do it again, would I go in after a dog in the same situation probably not

It is not stupid, people react to a sutuation, they see another human in difficulty, so they rush in to save that persons life.

The same reason why people go into burning buildings to save others ect.

Fear can stop some from reacting, but your gut instinct is to save lives."

It was stupid because when I did my life saving they do tell you that your life is the most important but the child was four and if I didn't go in that was it, a massive.gamble that paid off but could have ended up with the two of us drowning

Figures. Humans being. Why bother. And all the tree huggers are crying save the planet. lol

I don't think the planet has anything to worry about, just let nature take it's course and humans will be instinct soon enough and the 3rd stone from the sun will carry on just fine. And so will the lions and dogs and drowning kids.

Come to think of it, my dog would probably jump in the water with me to help save a strangers drowning child.

"48 yr old keyboard warrior must be angry at the way his life has panned out so takes it out on imaginary neglected kids. Sad really "

The man is entitled to his opinion, like it or not. Attack the post not the poster.

There is an element of the pot calling the kettle black in your post you must admit....a vitriolic attack because you don't like what he said. Grow up.

Belfast

I have no strong feelings either way.

I'm not an animal lover and I am neither pro nor anti hunting.

The thing that's been on my mind are the ordinary folk who work in the dentists. He's shut up shop but are the staff still being paid? What about their jobs?

I think that would be the last thing on his mind right now. He is probably in fear of his life. I don't think he would be worrying about his visa card not working.

Glasgow

Problem solved.

It seems Prince Harry is off to South Africa to fight against poaching.
