Once in a Blue Moon? There is one tonight.

Apparently it won't be blue, which is a bit of a bummer but anyways.

Off on a tangent with a weird thought. Will women have 2 cycles as well?

A lunar cycle is 29.5 days and so is most women's cycle. I was reading that a healthy women with a cycle that exactly matches that of the moon (29.5 days) is the most fertile.

The thing that has me scratching my head is this; as the earth's rotation is slowing down by about 2 seconds every year and the moon is moving away from us at about 5cm a year, if the lunar cycle increases to say, 31 days, in a a million years or so, will a women's cycle also increase to keep in tune with the moon?

Things that go through my mind.

i know a few people that work in the mental health profession and they have told me that yes full moon definitely has an impact on people's mental health. People with bipolar, personality disorders and schizophrenia are affected by this. All you need to look at Irish mental health statistics for levels of risky situations in inpatient units or levels of people presenting to a&e or other mental health assessment units to see the impact that this has.

also iv been reprimanded on calling them crazies as its derogatory

I'd guess that's more of a cultural thing than anything that can be biologically link to the lunar cycle.

Sometimes I have woken and night restless and there was a full moon. Maybe there is something to it? Who knows?

Maybe it's the extra light that reduces serotonin production or some other sleep hormone. If the moon light shines through your window or something.

there's a link between especially bipolar and schizophrenia and lunar cycles due to the amount less sleep we get with a full moon. This may not affect an average person but this has a huge impact on those with severe mental illness due to the link between sleep disturbance relapse (ie psychosis or mania)

and an average person gets something like an average of 19mins less sleep when there's a full moon ??
