Please get out and vote tomorrow. It's only a few minutes out of your day but it will mean so much to so many people.

Thanks.

Jodi thats unfair we have a choice and everyone is entitled to vote as they please. You cannot claim people are uneducated just because they believe in the no vote.

The final words of former President Mary McAleese, speaking at a BeLonG To event earlier in the week:

"I am grateful that my gay son grew up in a gay-friendly household. But we were not able to protect him from hostility outside our home and like so many parents of gay children we were worried sick about the man-made barriers we knew he would encounter, including the Constitutional barrier that would never let him marry the person he loved. Ironically he is a twin and his heterosexual twin faces no such barrier. No parent brings a child into the world to be a second class citizen... "

"The only children affected by this referendum will be Ireland’s gay children. It is their future which is at stake. It is in our hands. They're too few in number to win this referendum on their own. We, the majority, have to make it happen for them and for all the unborn gay children who are relying on us to end the branding, end the isolation, end the inequality, literally once and for all."

VOTE YES FOR EQUALITY

Everybody should go out and vote whether that's a yes or a no! To not vote isn't the answer, at least if you vote, you've done your bit for the people of Ireland so get out there everybody and vote for what you feel is right for you not what everybody else says is right!!

Where did you vote the last time? Your vote will most likely be in your local polling station. If you're not sure ask your neighbours where they are voting. Once your on the register of electors all you need is photo id, as in a driver's licence or passport.

Did you register with your home address, or wherever you are in college? If it's your home address, you vote wherever your family votes. Five cards came to my house last wee, but I'm the only voter who actually lives here

Yep, the very same. It's illegal to take a photo of the ballot paper with your vote marked on it so you young people need to remember that!

In your case you're a couple so it's a different matter. He's single so I'm presuming he has a vote where he lives? If he has a vote in the south, presumably he lives in the south?i dont really care though, I'm just fascinated as to what the hidden things are.

People have various valid concerns about the implications of a Yes vote.

Many of the concerns are dealt with in other statutes.

Others regarding surrogacy and biological parent issues seem to fall into a grey area or are on a "to do " list.

Personally I think The Referendum Commission has again failed to explain in detail all the aspects of this proposal.

I'm undecided as whether to vote YES (with reservations) or NO (with hope that a better, clearer Amendment that will give everyone the true equality that is deserved, will be brought forward)..

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Surrogacy and biological parent issues are issues already regardless of whether people are married or not. Being married doesn't suddenly make anyone entitled to availing of surrogacy. The court case that went on for a while here over whether the woman who carries the child is legally the mother or not involved a married heterosexual couple. Cohabiting couples are already entitled to adopt so how is marriage so far above that?

I respect your opinion. I'm of the view that if the current referendum is passed tomorrow, it will give true equality. Equality is not just deserved though, it's an entitlement.

Its not as black and white as u think....is it really equality...according to law a married man and woman share by law what is a family home..but if passed a gay couple by definition wont occupy a family home although they are married....so even though they are married by definition of the law the wont occupy a family home...before people get ancy with me this is what the law will state....people see this a great step forward...indeed but are the mechanics of law and constitution fully understood and are people just voting for a sugar coated jesture...are the areas of automatic accendency fully examined...i agree with equality issue but dont think this amnendment goes far enough and other constitutional ammendments need examination

Baby steps maybe but a step in the right direction.

As the saying goes if you wait to you can do everything for everybody instead of doing something for somebody you'll end up doing nothing for anyone.

If there are any failings in legislation as a result of the amendment the government will be able to deal with it without reverting to the people.

You're not voting on the definition of family.

You're not voting on surrogacy.

You're not voting on whether children have the right to heterosexual parents.

You're not voting on anything to do with adoption.

You're simply voting on whether or not gay people should be allowed to get married. Anything else is a smokescreen. Simples.
