Kids jumping on me and I hit send too soon.

We won't be paying because we have a private well and septic tank... But I feel for those who do have to pay not least because it's the government's buddies getting rich off it - why wasn't it put out to tender? And if we pay for water anyway... I don't understand what they're trying to achieve other than find another way to line their own pockets - there's no real point to these charges- which is pretty despicable. (I'm a big girl, I know it happens but it shouldn't.)

I assume those who refuse to pay for water are also going to stop paying for other utilities such as gas and electric also?

It's only logical that if you won't pay for one utility (water) you won't pay for other utilities (gas or electric).

Water is a commodity, water is set to become the most valuable natural resources in the next 50 years. So if we are paying to increase water conservation and improve our current infrastructure then Irish water is a good idea but at the end of the day we have to pay for it at some point

Bambi's just too young to remember why water charges were abolished in the past and how they put on car tax etc. Lucky him....while it all sounds a bit daft that's what really happened.

Help me learn? Ok... Look basically water will have to be paid for, the idea of setting up a body to control the use of water and improve infrastructure is a good idea, it'll have to happen as we are legally obliged under the waterframework directive,it's just that the introduced it at a time when no one has money, if this was introduced years ago during the Celtic tiger they're would be no protests. Every country in the world pays for water it's about time we stopped squandering a resourced which will become more valuable than gold or oil. Come back at me with the 80% of all water leaks before it reaches the tap but if you don't pay it'll never be fixed

I have absolutely no interest in your personal circumstances C&K, will the water charges being introduced here have any effect on your water charges? Just so we know where you stand.

Thanks. I don't have a problem paying for clean, drinkable, well pressured water. I can see no way these charges are going to be abolished but like the majority I would rather not have another bill to pay so delaying tactics are all that is left & I have & will continue to support these measures.

Ill be there with ye i aint paying any more to irish water

you never paid anything to Irish water, as they are only new plus the money from the taxes never went to water services they were sent else where. It's the government that were wrong but the WFD states water will have to be paid for by all EU member states

There should be a referendum to to leave the Eu

Leave the EU? ya we would drown, we can't survive without them"

We owe them too much cash as it is. We will never be allowed to leave. IMF need to recoup some of its monies thats why Irish Water was set up so Ireland could start paying off its depts.

Water has historically being provided by our county councils who purified and supplied this to most houses, this has being funded from co co budgets which in turn is funded from the coffers of the state. The state makes its money from taxation in many guises vat, motor tax, income tax, among others, in the run up the foundation of Irish water the co co had stoped any maintaince on the water infrastructure as they knew it would no longer be their problem freeing up money to be diverted to set up what in all probality will end up a private utility company.

Here's my take on the whole mess if my tax Euros have being used to provide a utility to a percentage of the population(I have my own well which I payed to installed and maintain) and that utility is now directly played for on a pay as u use basis where is my tax rebate. Secondly going forward where is the reduction in taxes for not having to fund the provision of water services into the future

I know where it is its going in to the funding of a top heavy civil service which is not fit for purpose until this is sorted and we get business savy leaders who get rid of easy pensions and contractual agreements which can be broke if we had leaders with balls to sack incompident civil servants rather than move them sideways don't forget u miss a vat payment and they close u down and fuck u on the street u fuck up.a country and they get u a cushy job in Europe or a massive contractual agreement pay off

Rank over now its back to work I go I owe I owe I owe
