Loads of pictures are taken poorly so they do not do any justice to the people of fab. In person, especially when nice personality shines through, people do seem much more attractive.

Also, on social meets, we all were clothes, so it's easier to look good, if one is dressed well. On profile photos, people usually are semi or full monty, so it's the naked truth about how the body looks. Nothing is hidden behind a piece of some fabric, nothing is left to the imagination.
