Cursing.

Can the ladies here who curse, please stop it. Please. I don't like it and its very unbecoming.

Dirty talk is fine from the ladies, in fact I'd encourage more of it.

I don't mind the lads cursing.

Thank you. Carry on.

Love the word fuck. It's universal and so strong. You'd never read in a novel "fuck off she hinted"......

I believe there is no excuse for bad language

If you have to express your topic, change the spelling a little.

Am with willow on this one.

I was part of a delegation sent to negotiate a property purchase from an old guy who had a piece of land that was required by the local community...All the possible ooutcomes and what he might ask for were thrashed out beforehand...

The offer was very generous and every effort would have been made to bring him on board..

No one expected the two word response which left us in no doubt where we stood and that returning was futile...

FUCK OFF said with conviction is a very powerful phrase...

I curse like a sailor and it is disgusting, but comes from working with "lads" lads for years and joining in with them, but am making a conscious effort to stop, well to lessen it anyway

"I curse like a sailor and it is disgusting, but comes from working with "lads" lads for years and joining in with them, but am making a conscious effort to stop, well to lessen it anyway "

All depends on the person and context. Not all people can curse equally and some people are just better equipped to do it. A well-placed curse here or there with an engaging eye can add humor or emphasis to a sentence.

For a gracious, kindly, courteous lady like you Lolli, the more sailor-like your mouth gets, the better.

Perhaps one of the most interesting and colorful words in the English language is the word "Fuck." It is the one magical word, which, just by it's sound describes pain, pleasure, love, and hate. Our most versatile word...by its stress and inflection it can describe many emotions. No other word can be used with so many grammatical nuances. In language, "Fuck" falls into many grammatical categories. It can be used as a noun (I don't give a fuck), as an adjective (it's a fucking beauty), as a verb in is transitve form (he well and truly fucked it up), in the past tense (I was fucked), in the present tense (I am fucked) and in the future tense (I'll be fucked) It can be an active verb (Mary doesn't really give a fuck); or an adverb (Mary is really fucking interested in John); It can be used as an adjective (Mary is fucking beautiful). As you see, there are very few words with the versatility of "Fuck." It can be used in an anatomical description - "He's a fucking asshole." It can be used to tell time - "It's five fucking thirty." It can be used in business - "How did I end up with this fucking job?" It can be maternal - as in "Motherfucker."

"Personally I think when the irish say feck or swear it don't sound too bad. "

Agreed. They did research on it. They got people to answer customer care calls on the phone. Irish, English, American. They also got them to do surveys on the street.

The people were told to casual swear "fuck off, you're not serious?" kind of stuff.

They then asked the people who called to fill in a survey about satisfaction. People complained about the English and American accents cursing, but not about the Irish ones.

No hole to be dug here Foxie. While the English language originated in Germany, it was brought to England and the grammatically correct way of speaking it is commonly known as the Queens English.

Therefore, irrespective of what country English is spoken in, the Queens English is still referenced as being the purist form of English that should be spoken.
