something for elderly woman to do?

This is as random a thread as you get but I'm nearing the end of my tether so maybe someone can help here

I live on a big hill and roads do be impassable with even a big frost so last bad weather I called into an elderly woman to see if she wanted anythin in shops seein as I drive a jeep. Happened a few times which was no bother and I'd stay shooting the breeze with her a bit

Now tho she's calling into me nearly everyday which wouldn't be too bad but she doesn't Say a whole lot. And can stay for hours.she's just lonely, her family have emigrated. I wouldn't want my friends calling in that much

So does anyone know of clubs or groups or something that I could direct her too. I don't want to just get rid of her just suggest to her something to do a day or 2 a week

And nothing sex related pls

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Does she drive? Like would it be easy for her to get around? My nan is part of a ladies club, they have outings and tea dances all the time, my nan even nabbed herself a fella at one! They take trips to Lourdes and stuff aswell and they call each other for chats so none of them are lonely

That's loneliness and company she's craving Hal,, she might not realise she's overstepping the mark and saying nothing but knowing youre there might give her great comfort.

Your local health centre should be able to help you with regards to golden years groups, afternoon bingo and recreational facilities suited to her. Pop in and ask at reception

Fair play to you sweetie for speaking out, that's a lovely thing you're doing

Ah Hal, you try & be nice & look what happens. It's nice that you don't want to tell her to just stop coming over uninvited but I think you're going to have to be harsh. If you can't bring yourself to do that try having something DIYish that you're always doing when you know it's her calling, something loud, with hammers or electric drills.

I think bens the dog from what I remember and apologies if it's a child. I took my wee old neighbour to get a dog from the shelter cos he was lonely. Now I'm dispatched for dentastix but he doesn't call over near as often.

The local public health nurse will have information on local groups etc for the elderly too as well as churches. Kudos for wanting to help, so many wouldn't and loneliness is awful to deal with especially when you can't get out yourself.

there's clubs for the elderly down here, they spend the day in a place playing games chatting with friends and they get a meal too. I'm there's something similar in most places, have a Google

I don't have any advice on the subject but fair play to Hal for being kind to an elderly person.

I bet she could tell some stories over a cuppa if you get her talking.

As often as I can I go to visit a museum, some of the stories told by the older generation are unreal, it's first hand information that will be lost when there gone.

I like hearing about the past but as hal said she dosnt talk much.

Dogs are great company but not always a great choice for the elderly as sometimes they can't look after them as well as they would like to and unfortunately sometimes they get neglected so you could end up checking in on two rather than one so I think looking up a day centre would be the best option
