Apologies firstly as not a topic for a swing site.

Changed over to sky hub 10 days ago and still no WiFi connection.

4 ph calls later to be told its a technically fault on the line yet the landline works. Told to wait until engineer fixes the problem.......

Without been given any real time for problem to be sorted. Surely at this stage, a simple switch from one provider to another should go smoothly....?

Any thoughts/ advice please

Well if your eircom wasnt fibre then it would have been on a copper cable.

The new sky fibre is on a different cable (a fibre cable). So its possible there is a fault on the line.

Your phone is probably still going through the two cores on a kat 5 cable to the copper.

So is it a waiting game or anything I can do

Just have to wait for a technician to come out and look at the cable from the exchange on the main road to your house.

All these companies are slow at getting it done and also don't like to admit when its their fault for an issue.

Keep hounding them and explain that if they sort it that you expect some sort of incentive for the inconvenience and time without broadbrand

Fibre works on different ntu type than adsl or traditional broadband. Eircom tech will change the ntu to accomadate fibre. The ntu is what you would call your main phone point faceplate. Most of this work is currently being carried out by kn networks.

Possibly may be Sierra for sky. They do some upc too. I have never worked at the tail end of network systems. The science behind system we have adopted in Ireland for upgrading is we ran fibre to cab. Then cab to DSLAM them DSLAM to house on copper. The vdsl then is terminated in New type ntu or other providers equivalent. Originally this was designed to deliver up to 70mb speeds. This is dependent on the length of copper run from DSLAM to house connection

quality of cable or joins therein.
