Yes thank you!! those things mean sweet fuck all same on facebook. Saying you dont have the right etc is about as useful as trying to climb into your computer screen and physically stop the person who is using your "private information"

Any photo uploaded to the Internet remains the copyright of the original owner unless they pass copyright to the hosting service.

If someone takes your image and uses it you can sue for copyright infringement.

HOWEVER

Sydney University and nearly all universities are immune to such prosecution during the course of research. For example a movie student can pirate sections of the Godfather for their thesis on films. The University MAY NOT publish this research unless it meets certain guidelines.

Students can download all of this site and your copyright notice wont mean a thing. If they want to publish the work outside the UNI then they will have to block your face, identifying marks, background.

You cant sue them at all.

Some people have written on their profiles they are lawyers an will pursue the matter and maybe they are lawyers and are saying it to scare people, but they have no basis in law.

Fab FAQ
"We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?

The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).

Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".

Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.

Sydney university do exsist, and it was rumoured that a student did research on kink and downloaded a lot of adult photos and published them.

The rumour is false, because the ethics department of Sydney University have no record of the event and they publish all the stuff.

Just to be clear, if you made the photo and you didnt sign over copyright to fab, then you can sue someone for using it.

I have done take down claims on a number of sites for using my facebook photos, every single one of them complied.

I have even done them against huge sites like sony, youtube, and small sites.

If its your image, its your image.

Fair use does apply so some sites can decline.

Nothing, its all made up. Sydney university expect their students to follow the internal ethics and copyright charters. No where is it mentioned they have to skip public stuff.

It was a lie made up that a student was doing research on fetishes and downloaded and published profile photos from adult sites. Researching the the community, the clothes, the sexual acts.

It was all a lie.

Sydney university are just like ucd.

Some universities have gone through profiles on social/adult sites collecting public data doing research. None of them will obey the message telling them about copyright, if they did the student would fail the year as the research would not be accurate and would be biased.

if you were a student at sydney university and were doing research into swinging, you would be expected to ignore all copyright warnings on public profiles. You would be expected to follow the internal charter which means they have to block out 40% of pic, all faces, all tattoos.

No university has any tools for checking for the message, nor the time, nor are they ethically or legally required to follow it.
