If your handcuffed and chained to the gate, can't I just remove the gimp mask to reveal your 'true identity'?

Oh I hear that every day. More commonly closer to big holiday-events, for example from people calling 2-3 days before Valentine's for example, hoping to find the best rooms at a low cost at 5 star hotels.

If you feel it's ripping you off, then just don't book it. With a slight fear of sounding cold-hearted: There are plenty of people who do feel it's worth the price, else the prices wouldn't be what they are.

The customers are the ones with the power to change the price. As long as there are people willing to pay, the prices won't go down. Still very basic economics.

I can completely understand that the prices are waaayyy out of some peoples pocket-range, but if you want a good rate for a special holiday then you should be booking it months in advance as room prices fluctuate based on how many rooms are currently available and the expected demand.

I'll also let it be said that I personally have no influence whatsoever on any prices, even if I am in the industry, as I'm not in the finance-department.

No need to get snarky.

Just because something is a fact, doesn't mean that it's acceptable. First example popping to mind is rape. It's a fact that rape happens, but it's not acceptable.

All I was saying is that anyone with the tiniest understanding of economics knows that prices are driven by supply and demand. That is a fact. Doesn't mean you'll have to like it.

I don't agree that what you say is fact having worked in the hospitality sector for years.

Hotels at other times of the year will sell out all their rooms for say €50 a night. Just because it's valentines or whatever they ask for more money. It's nothing to do with supply or demand although this is the mantra that will be used. It's purley down to being greedy, however being greedy is not necessarily a bad thing.

A bottle of water costs say €1 in a shop but you're not allowed bring it into the cinema with you. You have to buy their (exactly the same) bottle of water that costs €2.50. This is nothing to do with supply and demand it's just pure greed.

What pushes economics is disposable income. Those that have bigger wallets usually win out.
