I meant to do this the other day but it's not too late.

This week is European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (21-31 January 2015).

I just want to remind all you lovely ladies here to make sure you're up to date with your smears. You can check when your next one is due here

https://apps.cervicalcheck.ie/check-eligibility/check-eligibility.596.checkeligibilityv2.html

If you've never had one or not signed up to the program you'll find all the info on that site too.

Look after yourselves xx

Every year I go.its so important.they sent me a letter after my last one saying my last 3 were clear so yearly smears are not necessary that my next one us due in 3 years. That's a disgrace I think and I totally ignored it.I will be going yearly.poor jade goody was dead in 6months after she was diagnosed. 3years is far too long when one is aging...

Its more scary thinking about it than getting it done.now a mamagram on the other hand is worse to actually get done.so sore

I dread mine too and I don't know why cause there's nothing to it. But as you say you build it up in your head to be far worse than it actually is

I get my letter every 6 months...so 3years is mad...it could be because I've had gynaecological problems...not sure but 6months should be normal for all women!!

I have to go yearly as have abnormal cells each time, and for the next if it rates abnormal I've been told it will mean a biopsy. There should be a lot more awareness made about getting smears done as well as making them yearly.

The free ones are every 3 years if they're all clear. The doc will do one for you no problem yearly or as often as you like but unfortunately you just have to pay.

Mine did too but you just go and request one yearly anyway.when my mother was going through chemo she was sitting beside a girl who was 21 getting chemo and she was given the all clear on her previous smear that was 1 year previous. It happens so quick

It's so important to have regular smears, well done tiny on raising the issue. I'm still on the 6 month list and have had laser surgery and biopsies and may have more next year.

It takes two mins and doesn't hurt and could literally save your life

My town

My mother 25 yrs ago had regular smears had one the yr before it came back clear. The following yr she was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 38.

had to undergo a hysterectomy and chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

They left her ovaries in as she was too young to have them removed due to early menopause.

But had a early menopause due to treatment etc.

Three yrs ago than was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I often wonder if they had of taking her ovaries at the time of her hysterectomy years ago would my mother be here today.

My children have had the cervical vaccines that does not stop it but can reduce the risk.

My mother always said ladies get tested regularly every year.

For peace of mind for everything

Early diagnosis is vital .

I know this is a very personal issue but well done on the feedback. I just think it's so important that we all know when our next one is due and that if you haven't had one ever there's nothing to stress about.

If you've never had a smear test done just pop along to your docs or to your nurse and they can fill you in on how this program works. It really is an invaluable service that is free and there for you, so use it. It really could save your life. xx

Anyone read the book jade goody wrote with regards to her illness it was more diary. I did read it

It was very sad .

Jade goody coming forward with her reality shows with her undergoing treatment. The rise in ladies getting tested that year was unbelievable and they reduced the age for testing I believe than too.

I've to wait 5 weeks to have my next smear and it isn't covered under the scheme but it's worth every cent.

Poor Jade, I used to get a great kick out of her. Pure mad Tragic looking at her fighting her cancer and her little boys she left behind. There was a huge rise in women getting tested after she died alright but I think the numbers are starting to plummet.

Every 3 years is a joke! Never heard of that, thought it's free every year. Obviously another austerity move. Very important that it's been done every year!!! The earlier abnormal cell changes are found, the easier they are to treat. Very good post!

This is s fantastic post!

I have mine every year as I had cancer cells twice. Its vital to get treated.

One friend never had one and I was shocked!

I talked her into getting it done and she was fine.

Yeah I totally admired her for coming out to the media and everything with this very personal

And heartbreaking illness she had love or hated her she did save lives by her publicity. So ladies go and book one if not has one for a while .

Had mine last week. Didn't realise they needed to be done more often, thought it was only if there was a strong family history or if there had been abnormal results previously. I've been very lucky, never had problems, but other people i know haven't been so lucky.
