Since when is it a "regular" thing for three mercenaries to assassinate a dozen people in Paris? And what has an government in slumber got to do with the price of tea in china, they had police on duty at publications expecting some sort of incident.

My understanding of the French constitution is that martial law is illegal but they have a paramilitary police instead.

Unusual to hear people from this island who support the use of the army in dealing with domestic terrorism.

In and around

Shocking and very disturbing, I've seen the shooting of the policeman in Paris posted on facebook several times, I don't think facebook is the place to show the awful death of that poor man so didn't actually watch it but my husband saw it and says it's a shocking bit of footage. Maybe I'm wrong and people should see what these people so coldbloodedly did. Hopefully they will be caught soon.

Because you're not seeing the bigger picture.

A poor illusion on my part then, sorry. I was trying to contrast the post asking for martial law in Paris to the use of military style police against terrorists such as the "Black and Tans" in Ireland or, more recently, the British army against terrorists in Northern Ireland.

Personally I don't believe that the use of the British army was beneficial although I accept that not everyone will agree. Equally I do not consider the use of the army against terrorists anywhere in the world has been successful in the long run.

Id agree and disagree. I think that people do need to wake up and see the bigger picture when it comes to the savagery of human nature and the lenghts fanatics will go to but id disagree that should be posted on social media. Just the other day a post of a young boy get resuscitated in the back of an ambulance showed up on my Facebook. The fact someone took the time to video that made me ill. I worry about the human condition sometimes. As for France its a tragedy and the people behind it are no better than animals

Ireland is fine as long as we don't poke our noses in other peoples problems. We don't want to or need to get involved in bullshit that doesn't effect us

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

portrush

what the security forces need is the support of the community.... and that has to be earned ...

hopefully one day we will all learn, that the armed struggle is not the way forward...

though have we not all grown up ,being shown that violence works ...to keep control ... even to fight back ... phewwww ..... whatever happened to peace and love....

Ok ok all I meant was deploy the army or police. Shall we call them the professionals until the three where caught. There is a difference between shooting at easy targets as shooting at people who are trained for that type situation.
