what is it teenagers these days, the way they answer there parents, the way they have no respect for anything and the way they should be paid to do simple household chores, is ireland in the future going to be a better or wost place to live in just because of the people that will live here

I think all teenagers should be shipped off to boot camp for 6 months...sort them all out.. no more cheekyness.. no more backchat or sitting on their asses

i always taught the same thing as in twas how they reared , and in some cases that is true. but was in a few houses over the xmas where the parents are defo hard working and brought them up right and there still smart lazy teenagers who expect everything handed to them, which i no they dont get. but is it the way society is gone

Aha... they might look like they've been brought up right.. but they obviously haven't.

The parents have prob done everything for them.. given them everything theyve ever asked for... They've obviously don't do a share of the housework..washing up ..hoovering.. are allowed to play video games or sit watching the box from noon to night...

But then again... don't we all do that as well..us adults..we come home..eat..then sit n watch tv..n go to bed.

Kids do what they're shown and do what they can get away with

And therein lies an issue, both parents need to work so the child is forced to separate from them before it's ready, cue abandonment issues, time is the most important thing a parent can give their child, and it's free. Show some interest, we all liked crap music & dodgy fashion at some stage.

Kids are spoiled these days they ask for something they get it no matter how much it costs then they just throw it around the room or lose it they just have no respect for anyting i was lucky if i got 2 presents at xmas its gone now into spending hundreds or more

Mine are no angles but they go through stages once they realised we are not a landury service and that they are sharing our house they seem to cop on that they have to get up and do a bit around the house. leave em hungry for a day or two see how fast they learn to cook, my favorite was my youngest saying mom where's my clean jocks she replied in the laundry on ur floor to which he asked where there is only used ones here and she asked well what do u expect that they will grow legs and jump in the machine on their own. Two or three days later the washing machine was going with his clothes in it don't what he done for jocks and socks in the mean time and I don't think I want to know

But mostly we treat them as equals seems to work most of the time

I love that trick. Works everytime too. Once i unplugged my teenagers xbox when he was giving lip and held it out of his second floor bedroom. Of course knowing me as well as he does he didnt take the risk that i might not drop it lol. I giveth, therefore i can taketh away. Oh the power lol

Personally I know for a fact as I still am a teenager, that I'm not very responsive to my parents treating me as if I'm a child. Being told what to do and when to do it isn't really good for me either.

I feel all my mother needs to do is ask me politely and say 'when you have a minute' if she needs something done, and I'll go do it. Simples.

Ahh I was a bollox before moving out of my ma's, now we get along pretty well..

And im 25 now but if I were to move home we would probably argue again, so I think it has just as much to do with the parents and a touch of cabin fever all rolled into one

My town

My daughter oldest is nearly 18 and sometimes she talks to me like

I'm something she stepped on.

Until I sat her down and told her a few home truths. My mother was 60 when she passed away and I would never of dreamed of giving her back chat. Tbh if I did she would of knocked my block off.

I don't want to be arguing with my daughter all the time but I want respect and in return she was getting my respect.

Ignoring her is the best solution she hates being ignored.

We can only do our best be our kids

And teach them wrong from right

they only kids for a while adults for longer and it's a big bad world out there.

I think the problem lies with parents trying to be best friends with the kids look nothing wrong with being able to chat

But at end of the day parents are just that and should try have certain boundaries and have rules that if their broken that everyone knows there's consequences.

I'm not saying kids should be afraid of parents but a little fear of losing certain 'important' things should suffice.

I've a teenage brother and the difference in our upbringing was unreal.

There was a lot more money about when he was born and being the third child I think my parents had mellowed a lot.

Running joke is he was born with silver spoon in his Mouth and I was born with a wooden spoon on my arse lol

What about upbringing ... where are the parents. Today, children are often treated as luxury items and princes and princesses children no longer know their place in the family . No obligations .. just having fun ..that's the result et voila

There is light at the end of the tunnel. I was the stereotypical nightmare teenager. So much so I was sent to boarding school. Suspended within months. The whole shebang. BUT I grew up. Now I have a great life, great job, great friends. My parents thought they would never get me to 18! Hang in there and just love the be-Jesus out of them as best you can!

It's gone from one extreme to the next.

Many decades ago parents were so strict on their kids that they grew up terrified of any sort of authority figure. Terrified to go against the grain. They grew up to be very submissive adults as a result. Just think of the horrible things the church and state both here and abroad got away with as a result of parents being too afraid to speak out, even at the loss of their children's innocence.

The last few generations of parents have become less and less strict and as a result their children have grown up a lot less likely to be submissive adults and a lot more likely to speak their mind. But it is also getting to the stage now where many teenagers have zero respect for any form of authority.

It's all about balance. Teaching them about respecting the rules of the world but also that they as an individual are significant and important.

I agree. I def wouldn't be the man I am today only for my parents nor would my siblings and coming from a big household we would have influenced each others decisions but we respected our parents.
