Have to do my Xmas shopping on-line this year but I've hit a brick wall. Son wants a gaming PC and I must have read every blog, website etc advising what to buy. Its all gobbidly gook and gone right over my head. Can anyone explain, in plain English, what is the basic optimum requirement needed.

My son has shown me a second hand one on done deal but I'm cautious about buying used electronics.

Last place I thought I'd be seeking advice but I'm desperate now

. . My nephews used to buy and trade in used games at Gamestop. . I'm not sure if they sell used consoles etc but would avoid done deal unless very cheap and maybe worth the gamble. .

Gamestop don't do personal computers or laptops to my knowledge. I wouldn't go near them anyways. Overpriced and hard to get refunds out of. Look up electronic exchange Ireland and show your son what's on offer

Alienware are a gaming hardware company backed by Dell, pricey but all the best equipment. Some local IT companies would build you one and give you entry level specs. Probably best spending as much as you can afford though because they move forward very quickly and can become obsolete very rapidly. Can give more advise if needed, pm away

I think u mite need to download steam now for all games with latop or desktop.

im sure some of our techy members should be able to help out

but iv lappy isnt classed as a gaming one but iv never had a problem. its an intel i7 processor 8 gb of ram. there are companies in Ireland that do custom built pcs

Mr69: This is a 'how long is a piece of string' chat Kim, get as high spec as you can afford. Here's the MINIMUM specs for the upcoming Game of Thrones game.

Windows:

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Processor: Core 2 Duo 2GHz or equivalent

Memory: 3 GB RAM

Graphics: ATI or NVIDIA card w/512 MB RAM

DirectX: Version 9.0

Hard Drive: 3 GB available space

Sound Card: Direct X 9.0c sound device

Additional Notes: Not Recommended for Intel integrated graphics

Mac OS X:

I haven't seen the 'recommended' specs yet.
