Just wondering if many of you's have switched over to the new stoves than more efficient than the ordinary coal fire.

Nearby

We have a big stove in our sitting room. Back boiler so it heats the rads. And in the mornings the house is still cosy.

Stove gets the thumbs up from me anyway

we changed too,a big one in the kitchen heats 12 rads and a small one in the sitting room, twice the heat of a coal fire half the cost in fuel.

Solid fuel stoves are the way to go. Up to 50% more efficient, works out cheaper in the long run and safer

If it's sized correctly and piped right a stove is the way to go. My dad fitted one which is to big and it would roast you but heats 15 rads not a bother. Coal fire is a total waste of fuel, any of the bigger heat merchants can size one for you but make sure you get a good plumber to fit it

Same here but it's not as hot as I was expecting...probably to do with the layout of the house I suspect

Mr. Bossys parents got one a couple years. Heats every rad in the house for two bags a coal a week (its always going) bad side of it was had to rip up the hallway including tiles to get it piped.
