Just stopped off for a bite to eat somewhere, which has wi-fi so phone automatically went onto the wi-fi network as had wi-fi turned on for my phone. Tried to log on here and the site was blocked. Had to switch off the wi-fi to get on to the site.

Remember meeting a fellow fabber who once told me they dont stay in a certain hotel due to the wi-fi network blocking FAB too.

Are we all really that naughty??

You can download a proxy browser from the app store which gets past the block.

There's a good few decent free proxy sites on laptops too if its ever needed

Noticed in the UK now, all networks automatically block adult sites unless you contact the network provider & ask for the block to be specifically removed.

Oh I think it's a great idea...on the surface. But of course, you have to provide your details & for us who just bought a month long sim card from a shop trying to get it removed was a real pain.

Yes that right sweet whispers, uve to give credit card number to prove ur over 18 and think they take a one off payment of £1 for the privilege.Its all child protection which can't be a bad thing after all.

I actually respectfully disagree. censoring the internet in any form is a bad thing. It's one of the last examples of free expression and information we have left, from helping expose corrupt governments worldwide and bringing them down, to getting your rocks off the the weirdest filth imaginable. It's not up the to internet, the ISP's or the government to control what children see, it's up to the parents.

"think of the children" is just the first shot fired in the war to control the web....left unchecked it will snowball and pretty soon it'll be unlawful to speak out against our leaders.

Thanks, but i'll risk kids seeing some porn over freedom of expression and information any day.

My phone provider has it blocked on my phone.. prob isnt a bad thing as i could be on it 24/7 but means i can only go on fab when in wifi and as already stated its not available in too many places. But its a pain in the arse to be honest..

With the IRL mobile providers you just have to pop into your local phone shop with ID and they lift the block. If you're on bill it shoudnt be blocked to begin with.

I've found it's not blocked on dublin bus wifi, but it is on irish rail.

its never been blocked on the bus for me but irishrail have it blocked lol thats probably why i get the bus to work now

I've managed to use it on Dublin bus and Irish rail. Only place I notice is blocked McDonalds so I drink coffee elsewhere now.

The hotel in Cork for the meet had it blocked and they fully supported Fab swingers

It's not up to the venue its up to who supplies the wifi.

3 blocks fab, and also run a lot of wifi networks for companies to offer to the public, bitbuzz etc. So it wold be blocked on all of them.

Also, just to be clear about this. You have a human right to access legal information, and the european courts have already ruled that blanket blocking websites that offer legal information to block out unwantd/illegal information is a breech of human rights.

So while its okay to block a porn site, it is a breech of your human rights to block a site that offers social/poltical commentary to block porn/piracy.

So while you might agree with protecting kids, you are saying human rights of innocent people mean less.

Human rights are important, a trial is a human rights, imagine that was taken away and we sent people to jail to protect kids, people who had done nothing wrong.

anyway, the Irish government has made it stance clear. Our human rights as laid out under European law are not important to them.

We can look forward to further regulation of the internet as governments get to grips with cross-border issues.

Internet anonymity will disappear and everything will be traceable to individuals. Adult sites will have access controls. It wont be like the wild west anymore.

The "Man" can't control it as it is and he doesn't like it.

ps - The Green Isle also blocks fab.

for anyone on O2. needing to do the pound with credit card thing. Just download a browser called opera mini. free for android. your network provider own browser which is on your phone has stuff blocked. that browser will let you look at anything

I cannot believe that some put access to a swing site (containing porn) over the safely of children. Too many people hide behind the anonymity of the web to prey on the young and vulnerable.

The mobile networks are right to be cautious as do hotel WiFi systems and similar

thats why i carry my own wifi ..dongle..from..02..every were..10€ month..it works even in the bog holes of nowhere.

There's a few places that block it for whatever reason. I just use my mobile data in that case. 5gbs a month don't think ive ever used it all.
