Exorcism.

So the other night we watched 'The Conjuring' & it got me wondering if all religions had exorcisms & subsequently made horror movies about the subject or is it just a Christian thing?

I didnt like that film load of bull but the Exorcism Of Emily Rose was way better worth the watch.

Exorcisms are only practised in the Catholic Church and not common many priests will deny this practise exists!

Yeah, thats what hubs said, said it's a Catholic invention as Protestants don't generally believe in the supernatural. That seems like a pretty broad sweep but maybe he's right.

Was just googling and Islam believe in possession. Jinn is theirs.

sure possession and exorcism pre dates Christianity and most organised religion. Paganism is big on the whole process and exorcism itself and take different forms

are we all more interested in the idea of the after life then what religion possibly brings, maybe its just the fact we are all intrigued by what possibly happens in the after life.....it intrigues us all

Actually, the wikipedia page for "Exorcism_in_Christianity" (I know, I know, it's wikipedia.. pinch of salt and all that, but probably more founded than hearsay..) would beg to differ hat it's just a Catholic thing - there is mention of exorcism rites (if not specifically ordained exorcists) in Anglicanism, Baptists, Lutheranism, etc. etc.

Although I'm not religious, it's actually an interesting read..
