About 1.5% of the population are black. Unlike the UK most of these black people are African born and are not Irish born.

As a visitor to Ireland you should keep that in mind. It's not like UK or America where most black people are born in the country.

An African person who takes part in no risky sexual behavior is 1000 times more likely to have HIV than an Irish born person.

Take into account that the risks go up if you're a swinger, do gang bangs, bisexual etc etc and the odds are not to be messed with.

Don't want to scare you off, but the stats are just under epidemic rates. So play safe, safe, safe.

What about them?

Everyone with HIV gets caught eventually. STI testing is for you to seek help as soon as you get sick. Not to keep you safe. Acting fast will help you live a better life.

2 or 3 babies were born with HIV in Ireland last year. All from African born parents. The HIV rate among Africans is so close to epidemic rates that its scary. If the rates of HIV were high in Irish born people, then we would see it in child births (it would be like 200 to 300 "irish" babies born with hiv, instead there are 0).

People visiting need to be made aware of that. This isn't america or UK. What would be a moderate/low risk in America/UK would be moderate/high risk here.

That's just the way it is. It should get better over time, when the Irish born black people out number the African born black people (like in UK and America).

I don't agree, STI tests cost very little and take up very little time. I've had relatively few sexual partners but have gotten STI tested twice just to be sure. It could be months before an STI shows itself up in your body or even worse it can remain dormant in your body but you'll be passing it on to your parner(s). It's irresponsible not to get tested every so often. Just my opinion

Er.. To be fair, we're a bit off the epidemic level yet, thankfully! The UN suggests that 1% of the adult population diagnosed is an epidemic. We're currently about one eighth of that. Of the three babies diagnosed with hiv as a result of the mother being infected, none of them were actually born in Ireland. Two were in sub Saharan Africa and one was born in eastern Europe. Sorry for being picky. I read that report as well.

"Sti testing is for u to get tested as soon as u get sick"??

What kinda sick are u talking about?

Some people have an sti and don't even know about it for years

A lot of people think because they know the person that they won't get an sti.

Your GP will charge a small fee for the test or your local GUMM clinic will do it for free

No excuses really

How is he being in any way racist?? In fact quite the opposite...using the part youve actually quoted, hes removing colour from the equation and putting the weight on geography, which is correct. Still though, much easier just to call someone a racist isnt it?

It's neither xenophobic nor racist to say that the greatest prevalence of hiv/aids sufferers in the world are to be found in sub Saharan Africa where in some areas, over 5‰ of the population have hiv/aids (UN figures). Following from that it is neither xenophobic nor racist to suggest that people born in sub Saharan Africa are more likely to have hiv/aids based on statistics. That doesn't mean that they do have it, just on a percentage basis they are more likely to have it. I didn't like the tone of the post in question either, but shouting abuse from the sidelines doesn't really advance the debate very much.

His comment is xenophobic, i maintained.

Xenophobic means: intense or irrational dislike or fear of people from other countries. Which is contained in his above comment. Should the OP be looking for; lets say, a white person, i wonder if your man will post the same message, warning the OP of a potential HIV.

He's comment is bias and uncalled for. The OP is looking for bbc, and not some childish advise.

Dress it up all you like. The OP was looking for hot black men and hopefully she'll find exactly what she's looking for. What followed was a sweeping generalisation about men from Sub-Saharan Africa.

If a women put a forum post up looking for Bi men would she have been given the same info on the prevalence of HIV in men that sleep with men in Ireland. I think not. I thought the comments offensive and made sweeping generalisations. They had nothing to do with what the OP was asking for.

Xenophobic comments are unreasoned fear. I pointed out reasoned facts and figures as to why someone would have to play safer in Ireland compared to UK.

If you took croke park, and half filled it with 40,000 black people. That would be every black person in Ireland. The ones born in Ireland are low risk, the problem is, the vast majority are african born.

Looking at that half full stadium, 2 or 3 in it would be having a baby with hiv, and 2 or 3 would be newly diagnosed with hiv.

Now fill croke park with black UK straight people, build another croke park on top and fill that with black uk people, build another one and keep going until you have built 10 on top of each other. Full of black UK people, or Irish born straight people.

The ones on the top look like dots, you have never seen so many people. Out of that vast number of people 1, thats right 1 will be newly diagnosed with hiv, and 0 will have a baby with hiv.

The girl is coming from scotland, she needs to be made aware that she is leaving a low risk group (black uk men) and will be playing in a high risk group.

Calling me names, or bullying me for saying it, and saying I shouldn't say it is poor form. It was the right thing to say.

I bet you haven't got a clue of what you're talking about. As a matter of fact, there are more blacks of African origin living in the UK (millions of them) than in Ireland, don't you think that she may be coming from a 'high risk' zone?

Like i said before, your comments are baseless and uncalled for. The OP doesn't need your sulky advise.

There is a difference between African origin and African born. There are not millions of people living in the UK who were born in Africa. According to the UN, people born in sub Saharan Africa are something like 40 times more likely to have hiv/aids than people born in Ireland. If stating that makes someone a xenophobe or a racist then the UN is a xenophobic and/or racist organisation.

STDs can be contracted from people from any nationality. Nationality is not the cause, unsafe and reckless sexual practice with various sexual partners is! That is completely stating the obvious, but maybe that guy needs someone to state the obvious to him! What an inane comment to make. In fact, probably more likely to get them from native girls/guys as opposed to foreign nationals. I know of a couple of guys on here who contracted STDs from a girl on here, am sure there are other stories and occurances of girls contracting them from guys on here also! Always play safe, not worth it. But has nothing to do with nationality or race!

"There is a difference between African origin and African born. "

The population of West Africans alone is over 1.5million. Do some research, mate. And yea, i guess you know the difference between African origin and African born.

There are less than 2 million black people living in Britain, most of whom were born in Britain. There are not "millions" of black people living in Britain who were born in sub Saharan Africa.
