It may not be a popular opinion but I think the "partial restoration " of the jobseekers Xmas bonus Is a joke.

I'm by no means bashing any unemployed people, I know far too many unwillingly claiming.

But are the government going to up my wages by 25% the week before Xmas?

Didn't think so.....

They put up the price of ciggies because they need to find revenue to pay all the lazy scroungers milking the social welfare.

That is not to say all people on social welfare are scroungers, there are legit cases for it, but there are way too many heats claiming for money they arent truly entitled to

It's a long overdue measure in bringing back the Christmas bonus for people on social welfare, as someone who was long term unemployed that money meant I could buy my family and friends the presents I wanted to and it was a very miserly step of the previous government to get rid of that, on top of all the other austerity measures forced on the Irish people in the last few years.

. Whilst no one likes taxes going up , where do we suggest the extra funding should come from?. Should we try and develop a national database to ensure everyone is paying and make cash in the hand work illegal?.

There are over 35,000 longterm unemployed people that have never contributed to the welfare of this state and they are going to get a bonus what a way to go reward for doing nothing

Before u start there are longterm unemployed that have contributed and trough no fault of their own Find them sells in a suitation not of their own doing, but there 35,000 that left school and never worked a day in their lives.call me a crank but after a fifteen hr day and fourteen straight days I am pissed that out government has decided to give these people a bonus when I had to take out a personal loan to keep my business afloat where's the help for those small business struggling to keep above the water line where's our bonus paying interest on a loan to keep paying crippling taxes

It wasn't the unemployed people who dragged the country into recession. We should treat people like humans and try clamp down on people exploiting the system. Trust me, if you ever lose your job for whatever reason you will thank god you are here instead of America.

The people who caused the mess are upper middle class, to upper class. They were the ones that got the biggest breaks today.

The people healing the economy are Irish people working for next to nothing in any job they can get. These people were given nothing.

People keep asking where they will get the money from to fix things, the money is there, but they decided the number 1 priority is paying back loans.

Its been proven in other countries that building heals an economy, we have reason to build a spiraling homless population, we need to spend money not on rolling out water meters, not on interest on loans, but on building, on the lower earners.

We are in a position now wher if the government wanted to, they could play hardball with europe. We have friends out there who will help us. Britain for example would be happy to borrow money for us at a lower interest rate. Thy did it before and they said it was one of the best things they ever did.

It's all a sick joke.

I work, pay obscene tax amounts during my life and I nevr get given a break in a budget, single males, single males, who gives a shit about them. I wouldnt mind if the money was being spent on things that helped but its just going into a few peoples pockets and thats it.

Mega rich contractors, closed shop hospitals and untouchable police and doctors, property developers.

Its just a broken record, they are not even trying to ensure this never happens in the future, in fact it looks like tey are trying to build another bubble by holding the recession in place as long as they go.

You know what will happen, money will eventually be freed up for building, a massive shortfall, eveyone will turn into a property developer again and a few will get mega rich off it until, until we exceed capacity and the bubble bursts.

Anyway, I think they are knowingly screwing people over.

When i had my first child, child benefit was raised for the first time in several years...........from 15.05 to 15.80, a huge rise of 75p. A fiver is not much till you don't have it and you need something. However small the rise, it's still a rise and better than a cut.

Don't get me wrong I am not judging any body on their employment status I am judging those who choose to ride System put in place by suceesive governments which facilates those who make a choice to ride the system instead of rewarding them they should be an incentive to pull them in to workforce and if they continually ignore this they should be cut free

We all may fall on hard times and need a hand at some stage that is what the welfare system is there for but I have seen so many struggle and strive to be batted down by an injust system while others make a choice to ride the system and reap rewards

I am just glad there were not more cuts.....and more guards and teachers have to be a good thing....and the building programme will cause more employment so all in all things seem to be going in the right direction at last
