Sorry need a rant. Drinking whiskey and usually when I do it puts me into a really bad mood. Been like this for ages stupid depression been trying to get help for my demons. Plus was supposed to be going to college this year but stupid susi refused my grant. I know people give out about students but I for one wouldn't have d*unk away that money. Lately I don't feel like there's any way out and if people think I'm looking for attention I'm not like I've spent the whole night on my own and don't want to talk. So is there anyway out???

Peace

Martin

Hey Martin,

Most people I know have felt that way at some point in their life, let me assure you, you're not alone in that.

From your post it sounds like the disappointment from not having the grant approved and not being able to go to college may have triggered it? It's been a while since I've been in college, so can't really offer much advice there, but wondering if there is an appeals process that you could investigate? If that isn't possible, maybe check with your bank to see about a loan? If college isn't going to happen this year, maybe try and get some work experience in the field you were intending to study in?

Life is full of options and choices, sometimes you can't see them when it all gets too much.

Might be no harm to speak to someone about how you feel, a friend, family member or even a phone line such as Aware.

Personally, whiskey makes everything worse for me when I am low and more so the next day.

Hope this helps in some way.

CD x

. Try and avoid whiskey - too easy to drink too much. What subjects were you proposing to study?. Maybe you can work and do them at night school.Good luck

its a depressant too. Avoid at all costs when you feel this low. Get back to the dr.... Take the meds get counselling. Just do it. Life aint a rehersal.

Look for a plc, I got a degree after I completed a plc and transfered to a uni.

Look for work experience in large companies that promote.

For example tesco. Many managers in Tesco on decent money started on a till. Same with Pennys, Mc Donalds etc. Go into them with an eye higher up an work towards it.

Avoid dead end jobs, like working on a till in a small shop where all you will ever be is the guy working the till.

Life is what you make it, having college under your belt wont guarantee happiness.

I barely scraped a pass in the leaving. Didn't get enough points for any course, and people in Dublin don't get grants.

Was the best thing that ever happened me. I ended up living abroad, I eneded up with military service under my belt, ended up with an hns bsc degree, all from nothing, and now I am starting my own thing.

When my own thing is a success I will add it to my list of achievements and aim higher again. If my own thing fails I will add it to my cv and aim for a better job anyway.

Your goal in life now is to make choices that have a future, throw every ounce of energy into them choices to succeed.

Karma is real, start putting good karama out there. Be positive to people, smile at them, help them, dont be a door mat but help people. It wont always come back from that one person, but in general good karma comes back to people.

I have had people phone me out of the blue, after not seeing them for 4 or 5 years to have them give me opportunities. Why? because when I knew them I was positive, and I put 100% into everything I did around them. People remember.

Some people get devastated by news like this, or break ups etc. It's not that they are devastated by the news, its that a vision they had o their life has been smashed and lays in ruins.

Growing old with a girl, having kids with her, its all gone and it brings emptiness we no longer have something to work towards, to build. Same with you, you cant see anything to build toward your plan lays in ruins.

Make your plans shorter, make more of them, and go for them, short plans are easier to recover from if you cant achieve them in the end.

Some of the best times of my life were when I couldn't get into college. I miss those days like crazy. Looking back I had so many options and it was such a wild exciting time for me.

anyway, good luck.

I had plans.for myself I left my job last year and did a level 6 plc course in the hope of returning to college. When I was doing the course I got the grant but only after two appeals and letters from my docs etc. When my grant this time was refused I just hadn't the heart and go and do it again so I deferred my course which was an honours degree in business to look for work so applying to everywhere I can even Christmas work.

My friends do tell me to lay off the whiskey but was in such a mood yesterday at home I decided to have a few which in hindsight wasn't good. Thanks all for the advice I appreciate it

I agree safe has given some excellent advice there. Sometimes it's only when you get so low you realise the only way left is up. .. There are always options hun... Don't give up. .I think often just when it feels you don't know where to turn something comes along. Good luck
