Ok so this topic will probably go down like a lead balloon but here goes.

I realise this site is for entertainment purposes and an escape from reality...BUT..on the eve of water bills being introduced here, nobody seems to have mentioned it!

Why is this? There are people here from all walks of life and surely it means something to you? I mean lets just look at it from a personal hygiene aspect. Will it be a quick shower or a spongedown for your meet?

And without any personal information being given out...what are your plans to deal with these charges? Or are you not paying? Over to you guys, and please keep on topic!

I'm not fighting it, just going to pay it, the water has to be filtered and treated so I can see why the charges are being brought in, although I've no idea what the rates are yet!

I have being paying for my water for years had to pay for the well, pump, maintaince and running costs nothing for nothing in this life but where are the profits going to go from this new charge and since this service has being paid for by our taxes for the years up to this where is the reduction

Have you a well cj? And does this not free you from the water charge? I thought I read that somewhere?

You got to pay for your waste water if you dont have a septic tank ..the over flow of which goes into the local water supply contaminating it in many places. . but the water coming into the home is not being charged to the 22k in co roscommon who havnt been able to drink the water from their taps for years..and this is 2014

Yes that's true belle but up to now my taxes have played for water supply to those on mains (not private schemes) so my question is as we played taxes that provided this service where is the rebate now that its a chargeable service. I much prefer to pay a water rate as it would be cheaper than my present supply

its going to be €4.88 per 1000 liters of water is what i heard on the radio today but if u have kids there are allowances , they reckon it would be around €50 or a little over a month for a family of of 2 adults and 2 kids including kids allowances

Same here....our own well so no water charges....but well goes dry,pump goes or any other mishap and we pay...much rather be on the mains but we had no choice and yes had to pay the council to register the tank

The facts can be presented any way they please we played for these services for years along with waste collection now we have a separate charge so where is the reduction in expenditure going its wasted like so much of our tax euros. In the private sector if a job no longer exists there are redundices over the years this has not being the case from the top down people are moved from pillar to post how many water workers moved from the councils to this new company and are excess to requirements that we continue to pay.

Wow, some really insightful answers here, especially yours Temptress. I always thought that here in Ireland one of the most environmentally unfriendly things to do was to buy imported water. Think of costs and emissions it takes to move that bottle of water from Europe over to this island, when all the time we have it free on tap. To ad to it, here in Dublin, the tap water actually tastes really delicious.

I'm all on for the water rates, makes perfect sense to me, its a great initiative, the only shame is that when things where good back a few years back, when our leaders where giving us 25% on our SSA savings accounts, the rate wasn't introduced then, no one would have blinked in the boom and they negative feelings some people are feeling now might have been avoided.

Sure a high percentage of water is wasted from leaks and a decrepit ancient sub standard pipe systems ... in the boom this should have been updated .. charging for a wasteful substandard water system really seems ridiculous.. but what do I know

I would suggest that a lot of people are taking it badly because they are financially stretched at the moment with reduced income and extra taxes such as property tax, usc, and this water tax, as well as rising rents which are hitting a lot of people.

Sorry I was confused. Thought you were disagreeing with me. I also don't agree with the environmental concerns in relation to bottled water.

Where I live in Galway the water has always been perfect.

After the cryptosporidium outbreak a family member has refused to drink the tap water and buys bottled water even though the tap water is perfectly fine

Personally I think the amount of bottled water purchased by people with perfectly good tap water is stupid

Dear Southerners

It has constantly been a disappointment to me, that you, who fought off the might of the British Empire, have so impotently sat back and let The Man completely shaft ye's all.

Property charges, water charges, exhorbitant road tax, cost of living that's off the scale, ghost estates while people - families even - are made homeless...you haven't even managed to jail a sizeable number of the people responsible.

Now while I realise that we in the North - or rather just over 51% of us who could be arsed and I'm not one of them - have continually voted in a shower of sectarian idiots with barely an A level between them, I've never understood how you folks allowed yourselves to be so thoroughly fucked in the ass.

Go on and do something about it, so that we might get a hint of people power and burn down Stormont with all of them still locked inside.
