We've been chatting about the feelings that people have of there being cliques in the chatrooms. I personally can put my hand up and admit ot being "cliquey" with people I've developed friendships with and for that I'm sorry,

So I want to get a little friendly debate started

Theres a catch however,

unlike me blabbing on, you'll only be allowed to say what you feel within ten words!!! laura

Shivers here (Mrs Hottie) - Cliques yeah but that has only happened cos people spent time getting to know each other in the room - but I feel the irishroom is friendly. I always chat back to folks who make the effort to get to know me and have a giggle. Have to say I dont agree with making sweeping generalisations about anything including the irishroom. Its only a place for fun and chuckles - not dramas and sagas! Sorry Miss Cool well over my 10 word allowance lol - see me about my punishment when u visit me tomorrow

Ah for christ sake this is a load of nonsense!!!!

When we first joined fab I hated the chatrooms I found I went in said hi no one said hi back. I decided if I wanted people to talk to me I would have to put myself out there just like any other social suituation. I can't expect to walk into a room full of people who know each other to immmediately stop the conversation and talk to me - I need to introduce myself and JOIN their conversation. You get out what you put in With regards to people sitting on your cam - when someone new starts looking at my cam and doesn't say hi I will say a big cheery HELLO I find that some get uncomfortable and move off others will say hi back and hence conversation starts

A point on rudeness - in any busy room where conversation and giggles are happening it is difficult to keep an eye on who is coming into the room I do say HI to everyone who comes into the room if it is quite I will start a conversation with people if it is busy and I am chatting with friends I will say hi and continue chatting - anyone is free to join in.

A note on the scottish room - I have found everyone to be friendly any time I have ventured in yes people say hi but not everyone just like the irish room - any time I have tried to join a conversation I have been welcomed in just like the irish room - anytime I have ventured in and say hi and not joined a conversation I have sat unapproached just like the irish room although this happens much less in the irish room now as I have put myself out there and have made friends and they tend to speak to me not matter how hard I try to avoid them sometimes

In chat you get back what you put in, sitting quietly and waiting for someone to chat to you especially if your a single male, you might be a long time waiting.

Some of us cant help but yapping away on anything and everything and I never run out of cheesey lame lines to throw into chat.

As for cliques, they happen in all walks of life. The Irish room is incredibly welcoming to new people and that must go down to some of the lovely people i am thinking usee, shivers, hippies, laura who take the time to say hello and welcome ppl.

I am on here over a year and before january/February tumble was seen more often in the Irish room than people ( wonders is tumble a username !!!)

Anyway is wondering who is the clique so i can send an application form for membership

Have found the Irish room very clique in recent times and find no matter how polite am still dont get an answer from people. Certain ones take over the room when they have the ones they want to talk to on msn. Find this so unfair as the people that you want to talk to dont get a chance as they think they are being rude by butting in on other peoples coversations. Find am spending less time in the chat room for this reason and have friends in most of the rooms but dont get to talk to all my friends as they are on at differnt times. So it through emails and it not the same as having a bit off banter that is more flowing like in the chat rooms.

Rant over and dont ask for msn to chat as dont play and it only for possible meets.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

By (user no longer on site)

I'd have to disagree with this we've found since the irish room has gotten busier we've met a lot more possible meets, a lot more of the quieter members have started to openly chat with a little encouragement for louder members and new members are coming into the room more because it is so lively we've had mails from people (not our friends) who have been memebers for a long time saying they have finally started to have meets because they have gotten to know people in chat. I guess it depends on the person though what works for one may not work for another .....

The Irish room when this thread was created was quite cliquey, and both myself and Laura are guilty of this also.

However, since some teddies were thrown from the pram, I noticed I was guilty of this and made a very conscious and visable effort to include everyone entering the room when I am there.

I agree it can be difficult to be seen when certain people are blabbering on about shite (me) however, this is the same in real social circles, if your a wallflower and quiet, you wont be noticed (old time dances anyone?)

My opinion is, personally, get in there, if at first your'e not replied to, ask again! the chat can move very very quickly people may have made an honest mistake and not seen your message

if only a few people chat (which the irish room was edging towards), no-one will meet new people or arrange meets with new people, however since I made my visable effort, and others have made the same effort, we have had lots of offers of meets which is GREAT!!!

I've had issues in chat where i wasn't part of the loop, i've had same issues at parties, in the pub, in work, in college, in school - in fact every where people talk, some people talk, some don't - some people are more popular than others. I've been on both sides of this and while it feels impossible to cross the divide, its just a matter of putting yourself out there. No one has a divine right to other people's attention - you gotta go earn it.

Clique are what people say when they resent other peoples fun - stop judging and have some fun ffs.

Reply privatelyReply in forumReply +quote

Can I watch too?? (Laura )

In sum,

when starting this thread I had heard a rumour that people were unhappy with the cliquey nature of the chatrooms,

I also noticed that some, as scrufs mentioned (like us) who were speaking more than others and some as mentioned by others in the thread were not speaking at all whilst others had issues with not feeling welcome in the chatroom. Since writing this post, many "wallflowers" have came outta the wallpaper and into the centre!

I am genuinely sorry for opening a can of worms, but i feel proud that everyone has expressed how they felt and I hope things are changing for the better!

From now on,

Don't be shy, everybody wants to make new friends

Don't feel bad for butting in, it isn't a private room, its an open room for all

NO one person is more important than another

Have fun, go on cam, tell a joke

Be cool

Ive been going on and off into the Irish room for about a year and a half, one oerception is that certain groups congregate at certain times therefore creating a rapport ie: between 11:30 am and 4.00pm, obviously others go in between 10:00pm and 2:00 am, there is definitely a crossover of groups with a few constants like Something Cool etc. Maybe due to time differences there is less of a rapport/friendliness between the two?

You get back what you put in for those of you that come in and just sit there without saying anything or those of you that just want instant gratification..just not gonna happen this is a community of like-minded people not a dial-a-fuck site. Come in and join the chat--you'll be surprised on how quickly you fit in and it helps if u feed me compliments hahaha

following a secret rendevous lately i may have infilitrtaed the notorious clique, it is infact a undercover organisation that has similar aims to the illuminati, the free masons etc be warned the clique is taking over.

following the meeting i managed to find some headed notepaper and the meaning of clique has been revealed to me ( i cud force ye all to Knock and to wait till the virgin appears to me but lack of virgins around here !!!!!!!! )

ClIQUE stands for Cunning linguists Ireland, quintessentially unbearable egotists .............. be warned people

fab is one big clique

seems to me theres a small core of swingers who know one another

if you meet and "perform" well with one of these inner core, the word will get around v quickly and youll be in demand

however, if you dont get to meet, youll find yourself forever outside the window looking in!

That would be the same in the real world as well, if you were at a club hoping to play - you have more luck as you get more well known.

Theres only the cliques you perceive to exist. There are groups of couples/singles here who socialise together as well as chat together on here. I wouldnt call that a clique - just a group of friends who have met via this site and still use this site
