My god it's dreadful, it's not even entertainment. IMHO it's just makes fools of people who clearly have no talent and makes Mr Cowel and the judges even richer and the expense of someone's decent music talents who if they win will most likely be dropped by their record label and be even more ridiculed by the press for being a "Failure"....at who's expense??? Comments like 'totally destroying music' and 'ruined the music industry' are over exaggerated and melodramatic.

The percentage of singers that 'make it' through this medium is relatively very small.

There is one thing that annoys me and that is music snobs. Just because the performers that emerge from shows like the x factor are not to everyones taste does not make them less of an artist.

Look up queen on tour at present. Their guest singer , adam lambert, is an ex contestant.

One direction was from the x factor as was leona Lewis. They probably are the ones that really mad it.

I don't hate it And it does give the normal people a chance to make a go of it.

These type of auditions have been on going in the 'music industry' for decades. Advertising them in music/entertainment publishments.

This is just what its evolved to.

The exact same thing happened with the sport industry. It wasn't always broadcast on television....

Simon Cowell is an evil vidictive little man,who has far too much power over the industry,i mean when a so called"band"can get up on stage and play instruments that are'nt even plugged in the games up,i feel sorry for proper bands who can't get a break because they don't fit in to Cowell's image.

I would agree with this but bare in mind real musicians/songwriters just aren't what Simon Cowell is looking for, he wants somebody easilyanaged who's happy to sing other people's songs. Real bands do still have a chance just not on daft talent contests. They'll be the ones playing the bar circuit, then the festival circuit and then hopefully the big time.

I've no love for Simon Cowell or his cohorts and even less for the ten a penny acts he has produced but respect to the man, he is good at what he does, even if that is produce chewing gum for the ears

Id hardly compare someone dying to someone leaving a band as the same. And they haven't 'replaced' him. They make that quite clear. They have guest singers that give their songs a new sound. After all its as much the three remaining band members music as it was Freddie's. Just my opinion.

Everybody has their opinions on these things, its good that they're upfront about not trying to replace him and in a way I guess its good folk can enjoy their music live.

I just look at Metallica replacing their bassist when he died and for me Metallica died when that bassist died.

When John Bohnam died, Zeppelin finished and the band knew they couldn't replace him . For them it was the right thing to do

Don't get how you can say a band dies when a member dies/leaves. Surely that's the great thing about music, a band/artist lives on regardless of death.

Can depend how integral they are to the band

Cliff Burton- was a major creative force in Metallica, they never sounded the same after

John Bohnam- Zeppelin had evolved so much as a live act no other drummer could have filled in.

Who could have replaced Kurt Cobain in Nirvana?

Ok maybe the term was a tad harsh and not applicable to all bands but yes when some bands lose a member they lose their spark/relevance
