I don't have children but I'd say it's really tough nowadays with the influence of TV and internet.

The only idea I have is that whenever the child asks a question about sex, babies etc to be as honest as possible with them from an early age. Not full frontal explanations but on a level the child can understand at that age.

personally I think it's a good thing as kids/teenagers are engaging in sex at a much younger age as time moves on

i agree 6th class is good but the problem for a while was the explanations weren't detailed and advanced enough

what age are kids at in 6th class? sorry my ignorance again, where I come from they're 12 in 6th class. Considering that some kids start puberty before this it makes sense that they know what's happening before this.

Sex education at my school was when we were 14. The only thing it covered was pictures of women's inside anatomy and a very vague one of men's. It was explained how we get pregnant, but actually only AFTER the act. It was not explained how the semen gets into the vagina. Nothing about protection. Sad act.

thats the biggest problem with sex ed! The lack of understanding and info available on contraception! It's not hard to explain it fully

I don't know what is covered nowadays. As said my sex education was over 25 years ago in a different country.

My town

I remember my oldest who is 17; her sex education was quite explicit.

Bearing in mind the class was mixed the videos was shown in the reproductive system..

also explained about -"wet dreams" and the girls starting puberty with periods and breasts developing.. The video showed different types of things girls should wear around a certain month. My daughter said the boys was laughing and the girls was embarrassed as the boys asking questions to

The girls.

I think sex education is important and vital in

a mixed school it should be done separately

should the pupils wanting to ask questions.

but unfortunately it seems it was a big joke.

that is such a good point letme! It would certainly help to seperate boys and girls for this as in that age you're embarrassed about everything.

they sure are especially when teacher asked after different types of sanitary purposes was discussed for the girls.

Any girl here wants to say how they cope with with having a menstrual cycle; to help the other girls that would in time get to that stage. With that class was laughing.

Now if all girls it may have been a good thing but in a mixed class no girl is going to admit anything like that.

This was part of a programme that began in 2nd class. Started with awareness of differences between people, hygiene, cultures etc so essentially a build up to the final DVD.
