The meaning of the word charity to me means giving something to help another for free. As soon as you turn the organization into something where 'staff' have to be paid it's exploited and I wouldn't give a red cent to any of these.

If your question is purely an animal or human based question then it would be animals all the time

me too... Always go with the animals but this year a few people have said that people deserve it over animals......i just wondered what people thought.....and in my opinion no charity with substantial skills required can purely be staffed on voluntary offers.

unless u are giving it to independant people travelling over there...fair enough.its designed to be heartbreaking through adds etc.yes they are starving and suffer dire conditions but its NEVER gonna change over there no matter how much u donate.it sounds harsh but its just practical...!!

I do both but lately there has been such an increase of cruelty towards animals! If there's anything I can do to help preventing it or helping animals who have suffered, I'm happy to do so.

As a Christmas present I sponsor residential animals of the DSPCA. Everyone loves those pressies!

The money/funds do get there, but it's the way each organisation utilise it that's the important thing!..

I worked in Rwanda for quite awhile back in 94, and that was an experience!!..

Food, equipment and aid do make it through, people don't usually get to see the end result!

Yes there are some agencies that seem to squander more than others!..

But as a whole, if we don't help then nothing can be done!

Anyway, that's just my experiences with it

Sorry, I didn't intend to take away from the OP...

I just wanted to say that from experience, donations do pay for equipment and aid for people who need it!.. It's just a shame that you (as the donor) don't normally get to see the end product and the good that is done!

don't be so modest! But it's good to hear this. I wish more people who see this first hand would share their experience. Maybe it would encourage the doubters to donate.
