In your own words - really? If i tell you in my own words how exactly will you understand? I don't really have my own words as i've never invented a language.

Near miss - when you nearly colide with somebody, "i had a near miss there" no you didn't, that implies you were looking to hit them and nearly didn't

anybody any other sayings that grate on them?
