No club scene here???

What's the reason there isn't much of a club scene here compared to the UK?

Too small and dispersed population. ONly City capale of supporting a club and keeping it discret is Dublin and it already has one.

Blaming the media is accurate. When i was about 16 i remember reading a tabloid 'expose ' on a 'sordid sex party ' at some large house. They even published car registrations.

Then only a couple of years TV3 conducted an undercover investigation into swinging. They portrayed it like the partygoers were doing something wrong. The female reporter almost found out.

Blaming the media is indeed nonsense. "The media" simply reflects what people want to read or see on their screens. If it didn't make money for newspaper or TV companies they wouldn't bother with it. The suggestions are that the UK has a much better club scene than here yet the UK media organs are probably even more obsessed with salacious nonsense than the media here is.

It's a little bit like the political scene in this country. Everybody seems to hate the government, yet the overwhelming majority of voters voted for the two parties that are in government at the moment.

If people stopped buying the newspapers that make a big issue of people having fun then those papers would very quickly change their approach. We control the media, but the other way round!

While agreeing with the above within the last month a club was put up in the media didn't seem to cause much of a stir in actual fact it was probably the best add the club ever had is it possiable peoples attitude is changing twoards sex in the country

You're right cj, the religious conservatism that was so prevalent is slowly fading away. However, anyone who thinks that catholicism is the only problem really needs to open their eyes. The vast majority of the world's population claims to belong to one religion or another, and I don't think very many of those religions proclaim the virtues of free love! It's always going to be an uphill struggle, and no, that's not a euphemism!

It doesn't help that in this Island Political views/nationality are so often confused with religion. I am so sick or reading about the catholic tradition of this, or protestant view of that when referring to Nationalist/Unionist/Irish/British/Republican/Loyalist issues. Religion is nothing but an inaccurate label here, but some people cling to it so tightly as part of their identity that it does have a much more significant implications than in many other places.
