As they say everyday is a learning day. What's your knowledge to share with others???

Ours to share with others is the word POSH means elegant, luxurious, or upper-class. Its true origin likely comes from 19th-century English/Romani slang for money, though a famous urban myth claims it is a ship acronym.

The myth claims POSH stood for 'Port Out Starboard Home' which came to stand for the wealthy shipboard travellers who could afford to travel in this way. But this has been debunked by historians as no credible proof.

So what fountain of knowledge do YOU want to share with Fab today.

Stellar nucleosynthesis! One of my favourites!

I usually present it in a more practical way by pointing to people's gold jewellery (wedding rings are fairly common in my age group) and asking if they know where the gold came from.

Invariably they'll say something like "A mine" whereupon I prompt them to go further - how did gold get into the earth to begin with?

All gold - all elements above iron - were born from a supernova billions of years ago and found their way into the depths of the earth before it was even fully formed.

Continues to blow my mind.

Guys brilliant facts for those who posted accurate facts and for those inaccurate as requested please STICK TO TOPIC.

So just so ensure the trend of learning these are the correct origins of the two inaccurate responses:

The word "golf" comes from Middle Dutch word colf or colve meaning club, which shifted into the Scots word gowf or goff in the 14th or 15th century. It is not an acronym. And besides the thread didnt call for acronyms.

Also,

The bits in Club Orange are made from 100% real orange fruit. They consist of natural orange juice vesicles and pulp fragments (the tiny sacs that hold juice inside the fruit flesh) left over from squeezing whole oranges.

There is enough fake news out there so just wanted to keep the records straight. So no offence intended to the incorrect posts.

Apparently, it's estimated that around 117 billion people have lived throughout all of human history. This is going back to approximately 190,000 BCE.

With today's estimate of roughly 8 billion people, we make up around 7% of the total across all of history.

Moreover - this means that you could hypothetically assign a unique 12 digit number to every single human being who has ever lived.

I dislike being tracked/targeted advertising.

I know that - with enough effort - anyone can be. However... If it takes more effort to target me than it does others, the reward proposition decreases and the effort is no longer worth it.

Thus, my data continues to blend into the noise but the ability to target or tie it to me specifically becomes a valueless chore.

Cookies are a superficial layer, of course (there's underlying identifiers at the device level, etc.), but there's ways of dealing with those as well.

While this may sound like a boatload of paranoia, it's really more like a game to me. Camouflage. Hiding in plain sight.

And because I'm a nerd, it's fun.
