Works both ways - and everything depends on the ppl involved… The only time I ever claimed on my insurance to replace stuff damaged in my Airbnb was after an arranged afternoon meet by a couple - I didn’t know this when they booked. It was only after, first they asked to arrive early then stayed only for a couple of hours and left.

The place was a mess!

Sorry but thats not working both ways.

Thats unfortunate but it is the cost and danger of short term renting to strangers. And while unacceptable is expendable.

Having a host hidden behind a makeshift partition is a complete breach of trust and safety

Belfast

I stayed in an Airbnb a couple of years ago with a fab friend just for one night.

It was an old farmhouse cottage with an unusual layout and while it had been advertised as a one bedroom cottage it was pretty obvious that it was actually a 3 bedroom house but the other bedrooms were locked.

That in itself raised a few red flags but while we were there I read more reviews on the place to see what experiences others had had.

Well down the list of reviews were half a dozen talking about the host turning up and letting himself in at 11pm and later.

None of the more recent reviews had mentioned anything like that or I would have booked somewhere else.

We joked that he was maybe hiding in one of the locked bedrooms and would be wandering about during the night.

We never spoke to him during our stay at all so when he posted a review on Airbnb a couple of days later we found it very creepy when he described us as a lovely couple and said it had been great talking to us and it looked like we had really enjoyed ourselves in his house.

"He practically gave ye a veri "

That's hilarious!

The whole thing is very scary.

Was he just living in a secret room in the house or is there something more sinister here? He was hardly standing there for hours waiting for them to come in, was he?

Also, booking.com is utter shit in terms of reviews. Negative reviews are always buried so far that it's hard to find them. I almost stayed in two places on the same weekend a few years ago, and both were absolute cess pits. The first one, I left and slept in the car instead, and the second I ended up booking a hotel but far away when I realised how awful it was. Both had really positive reviews. I left negative reviews for both but couldn't find them a few days later when I went back looking for them. Fuck Booking.com.

"Hiding behind a wall" makes it sound a bit more salacious than "living in a secret room in the house" would.

Neither is acceptable of course, but one is much less seedy than the other.
