A total hose pipe ban is coming into parts of the country from Thursday.

They have announced a hotline number to report people breaking it

If a neighbour was watering their garden late at night would you make the call to report them.

The sad thing is there are people who will do it...

Apart from that..How dare they come out and say something like that.. why?

Because we as a nation allow them too..

Until the day we as a nation collectively come out on the streets to show them NO... enough!!!

There just laughing at us and will do as they please...

Because we won't... couldn't be arsed, it will be grand, someone else will do it..

In the meantime let's all spy and report eachother!!! Beautiful!!

I saw my neighbour topping up her kids paddling pool again this morning.... I'll be waiting for her Thursday morning bright and early... And if I catch her, I'm gonna fukn drown her with our garden hose... And report both of us!

It's not the data centers I have an issue with at all, it's our government, public services and civil servants who are just miles behind the curve, as usual.

Even without any heatwave, we are always running close to capacity on our water infrastructure.

It won't be solved for as long as the state bodies, county councils, etc, want to bundle everyone into a few towns for their own ease!

We can't even get our few own natural resources right!

There's a contradiction in that.

If everyone was bundled into towns, the problem would be far easier to solve. There'd be much less infrastructure to maintain fire a start. There'd be fewer miles of leaky pipes to repair as well.

I'm not advocating for that, but it would make things easier.

Even better than than, ask some of the multi billion € corporations that operate here to pay fairer levels of tax, including our own banks. We had a situation here a short while ago where AIB was making massive profits, yet not paying any taxes, this despite the taxpayers having bailed them out a few short years beforehand. REITs are another thing. The non resident investors are supposedly liable for tax but if it's connected to a retirement fund, they may not be. The government should look into that.

We were never going to get away with it. They will always find sneaky ways to get more money out of us. But we put up with it,while the rich get richer.

not far from

Pumping water from the shannon to be lost in a leaking pipe structure is a waste. 3 weeks into the second heat wave and they now decide to reduce supply! The pressure should of been reduced before now. The state needs to look at building more desalination plants and using underground storage along with propper rain harvesting systems in the building of housing estates

So fk the hose ban won’t stop us using the water for whatever purpose we want.

This is another one of those times that I'm happy to be living in the middle of nowhere. No mains water here, we have our own well. A hose pipe ban might seem like a pain, but it's better than having the water pressure reduced, or turned off at intervals, especially if there's kids in the house.

Have you a hose ban across the border as well !!??

I thought it was only down south that we came up with these crazy ideas

The Shannon and it's tributaries flood the midlands extensively every winter and have done for years and years, yet there are those opposed to taking water from the Shannon

The majority of that floods because of the extensive digging done by BNM. Much of the land in those areas has actually sunk. That said, now that BNM will have turned off their pumps, huge areas of bogland may beocme permanently flooded. The upside, they will become some of healthiest habitats in Europe for all sorts of wildlife and birds. Some in Offaly are already the largest breding grounds in Western europe

Parteen has been quietly responsible for much of the flooding, too. When the weir is closed the water rises considerably, up river! Floods thousands of acres.

I wouldn't use the flooding as a reliable indicator of available water for Dublin!
