It works perfectly fine. Some people take a break and leave Fab, only to return after a while with a new profile. The first thing these people do is reach out to old friends to re-verify them.

I certainly understand that is the case in some circumstances, but the profiles in question are relatively empty, with the only comments "New to the site" that raises a few eyebrows.

It's hard to judge really as you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. It's certainly possible it's a fake verification, but it's also possible it was genuine. You, I, and fab admins have no way of knowing for sure

Treat as fake until proven otherwise imo, particularly if they aren’t displaying the veri. If they are displaying the profile check the profile of the person who verified them and see if they are verified by other people.
