Not affecting us majorly yet. Has affected the step child going to college during the week. Still have fuel in the car because I made sure it was filled Thursday morning. Dee did have to take the train for an appointment she had in portobello yesterday evening though. Have seen signs of panic buying where I work so that's put my workplace under some pressure.

It is long overdue that the people protested the policies of this government, the taxation and hidden taxes such as fuel the tax on it is 65 % it is not theirs and they don't even transport it similar tax models are rife the government makes money off the housing crisis and fuel they welcome it as a new revenue stream

There was Garda presence in Sligo but didn’t see any protests in the area fortunately. Kept out of centre though.

There was some serious panic buying in Kilcock yesterday at lunchtime. One elderly gent in the queue was telling how he doesn't even use the car at all but he filled it up anyway.

serious support all right. Needed to happen as its a constant struggle to stay going , and as you say no point having a protest on the footpath .unfortunately its going to drag on , but this was perticted to happen by a certain social media guy back in 2024.how right he was .

He stated, farmers hauliers ,construction ,will take down the goverment in 2 o 3 years from now because they have the machines and the will power to do it .

Part of the reason for delays in the health service and people on trollies in hospital corridors is "double-jobbing" consultants treating private patients in public hospitals.

Up to 30% of patients in public hospitals can be private patients under a contract negotiated in 2008 by their representative body. Significantly higher percentages have existed in the case of some individual consultants, an actual breach of their contracts which they have been happy to inflict on the public health service.

The delays, and people on trollies, should in fact be in the private hospitals but the pressure is taken off them by use of beds and surgical facilities in public hospitals.

Thankfully the previous and current government are working towards full implementation of the Public Only Consultant Contract (POCC23) which will free up space for addition public patients to be treated in a more timely fashion.

The subsequent delays will start to transfer to the private healthcare sector where dividends are being paid to the hospital company shareholders with little or no reinvestment of the vast profits being made from health insurance premiums.

I've written on threads previously on waste like this in government departments

I've personally been asked to supply a product I sell 5 years after I sold the last one to the OPW

My product has a lifespan of at least 30 years

They want to change it after 5 years because if they dont spend the money then they lose it out of the budget for the next 5 years

I walked away from doing business with them

The OPW are out of control, and nobody knows it. I could tell you some stories. Covid saved their arse big time on a load of projects, millions wasted...People were otherwise distracted!

We headed to Drogheda yesterday and we arrived just as a convo blocked the M1, we headed into the town to carry on. The M1 retail park decended into chaos, we just went for food, chilled for a bit, went around the shops, headed into powercity and got a large purchase and picked out a new tv. Went outside place was empty, cruised home in peace. Zero inconvience, lovely day out.

We were in Galway Docks last night. Great to see the huge support. Stayed till 1am. Riot squad were there tooled up but just would not try come in the crowds were too big they wouldn't have been able to do anything. Unfortunately they got through in the morning when the crowds weren't as big. Big marches going on here still . No support for the government they way they wouldn't respect or talk to the protesters. It could have been solved a lot sooner

I do have sympathy with those who are enduring hardship here because of the cost of fuel. The fault lies with Donald Trump unfortunately as his decisions are the reason for the current price increases. Protesting our government and saying it's all their fault is not correct. They do have it in their power to reduce taxation but at the end of the day the government spending it already committed so reducing tax on fuel may well need to be paid for but cuts in spending elsewhere or increasing tax.

I WOULD NEVER stand up and be counted with the protesters though as these people don't represent me and have tried to bandwagon this issue alongside other views which I find abhorrent.

Badly inconvenienced by the protests last week. Its fine to protest but crossed the line by stopping fellow citizens from travelling the roads. That nonsense went on up the north a few years ago over parades. Those protesting had businesses hit hard when people boycotted them for out blocking roads.

I've no major issues with the protests as they have only caused a 15 minute delay for me so far. However I'm not sure how advertising locations and starting times for the last week or 10 days and advising people to adjust their travel plans accordingly and then rocking up and blocking roads that weren't announced more than 2 hours earlier will help the cause.

All that does is piss off people who changed their route and set out early and then have to walk to the airport as a result.
