A riddle by definition is an ambiguous statement. The element of ambiguity leaves it open to interpretation therefore there will quite often be more than one correct answer to a question posed in the form of a riddle.

(To paraphrase the old adage.... "there are no stupid answers only unclear questions").

But they are an entertaining type of thread and a welcome break from some of the even more ambiguous guessing games that sometimes appear here.

My answer was 3 dont speak English or Irish

However some people swear blind the answer is 13

Yet a lot more say 8 as does A.I

I've had equations and drawings sent to me showing 8 as the answer

In my head if I walk into a classroom and get 15 to get into one group and 12 to get into another group that leaves me 3 ...not 8 no matter what A.I says

Think of it as a Venn diagram, take out the commonality (the overlap in the diagram):

10 speak English only

7 speak Irish only

5 speak both English and Irish

E.g. (10(5)7)

Total 22 students.

That leaves 8 students who speak neither English and Irish.
