So now we are to have our country associated on the world stage with a sports event organised by The Royal & Ancient Ltd, a UK based private company in a facility owned by the family of a would-be US dictator.

All the same, I'd also rather not have an international event with Irish branding in association with Trump

Ireland will be made to look like a nation of orange-tongued lick arses in front of the world at large.

I will certainly not be buying a ticket to the event but that will make very little difference to the profits of the UK based company organising the event which will be made mostly from broadcasting fees.

Very little benefit for Ireland and our global good name dragged through a mire of orange slime.

You do know that The R&A runs golf in Europe and that Trumps other courses in Britain are holding tournaments too

Money talks .....The government gave 58 million to a very rich limerick man to hold the Ryder cup in his private hotel

Now he needs another 30 million to run it properly

88 million of our money for a private event

As far as I am aware the Limerick golf course owner has never been accused of being a sexual predator or a war monger.....

The worst I could accused him of is helping Limerick Hurlers steal a few All Irelands from Cork but I don't think that is going to make Ireland look as bad in the eyes of the rest of the world as the Doonbeg Disaster will.

2 points in 39 minutes of hurling is the reason Cork can't win all Irelands

I respectfully disagree,

Voicing opposition, boycotts and protests are all ways of showing that the general population do not endorse this event/host (or insert any event, product, government etc...)

I agree with you but I thought Badger was thinking more in general than just local

Ireland as a country being embarrassed about Trumps name on tge event

My answer was about in the golfing world Trump has been accepted everywhere

His courses are going to be used elsewhere next year

He's going to delay The Ryder cup next week by being there as that's the big one he wants on a Trump course

Golf is probably one of the places he's accepted more than other places and yet he cheats while playing

Tipperary

Just a couple of points here guys Portmarnock is the venue being considered for The Open nothing decided yet if it’s added to the list it will be a few years before it’s played there and the orange guy will be history or in jail or dead by then Having been to a number of Opens The Clare venue and surrounding area couldn’t support the volume of people also the infrastructure is not near the standard needed. JP Mac dose so much for charities in his area and further afield yes he owns a 5* hotel and championship golf course but if he didn’t own it some multinational or the Arab consortium that wants it would where it would be off limits for all but those These are the same people who have no understanding of human rights but own soccer clubs and F1 teams people don’t have a problem turning a blind eye to. The government fund other sporting organizations annually that take in money year in year yet nobody protests at horse racing which is the sport of kings most from Arab states as I mentioned or the GAA who are also looking for more €m’s again and will probably get it. No I don’t like the orange guy as much as most but he’ll fade into history soon and sports will still be there along with all the corrupt people it always attracts will I attend dam right I will like I always have I care about the people like our orange friend as much as he dose about me staying away as a protest and missing events that are once in a lifetime makes no sense to me but each to their own. Liam Mac is very comfortable at home here at the moment I’m sure people are sick of rerunning the game and the skill in show but we’re not. Hon Tipp

Westmeath The West.

It's an international sporting event at a top class golf course. The usual, now boring, discourse around it will be nauseating. The most embarrassing thing of all will be the drama from RTÉ and a bunch of hysterical fools that will be given airtime.

It wasn't today or yesterday that we started licking American ass. Our whole economy depends on our relationship with them. They prop up the environment that allows the uselessness of our politicians and public services to exist. The US is the main reason the majority of us are still living in this country.

As for the Limerick lad. Please try and stay consistent. That bollocks has been avoiding tax and moving his wealth off-shore for decades. Now he expects the tax payer to pick up the tab for his vanity event. He can fuck off and all...rant over!😅

.....

As an independent sovereign state.....no we don't.

Our government could lobby to have the event renamed the Doonbeg Open. The event would still go ahead but the "Ireland" brand would not be directly associated with it on the global stage.

I'm sure Clare Co Council have some authority over licensing/permission for the holding of this event.

The government have authority over the garda resources which will be required to manage traffic and security. They could easily tell The R&A Ltd to pick one of the many other fine golf courses around the country. That's what our elected government is for......to govern, not to bow down to sectoral interests who want to hijack our nations name with a purely profit agenda hidden behind the thin veil of a sporting event.

The people of Adare will be very happy with their bypass long after the LL is gone. I wish we had someone who could do the same for my town.

Sorry, but that's just a peasant mentality.

When he isn't paying any tax here the very least he should be doing is contributing to his locality with out everyone sucking him off for doing do!

Why should you or I have to pay tax if he doesn't. Why can't we decide where our money gets spent?

The locals have been blocking that ByPass for generations, its nothing to do with him! It's more to save embarrassment of local officials when the RC comes to Adare.

I was referring to the Limerick gentleman obviously.

The other guy does nothing for Ireland except bully companies into not investing here or puts existing jobs at risk by placing punitive tariffs on our exports to the US.

I presume Revenue ensure he operates within the tax laws and is fully tax compliant.

There will always be local nimbyism regarding infrastructure projects but I'm sure those that won't have to suffer sitting in traffic jams while travelling through Adare will be very pleased with the progress.

A town near you

The Limerick lad is a tax exile like most Irish millionaires and billionaires but tbh honest if I was loaded I would be do the same, I'd be suprised if most of us wouldn't.

His businesses interests here prob employ a reasonable number of people and he does scholarships and charity donations so I won't knock him.

That didn't take too long.....

The son of The Orange Peril is now asking the Irish tax payer to subsidise the commercial venture organised by a Scottish company at his private golf club in Co. Clare and using the much more prestigious Ryder Cup 2027 as a comparison.

To paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen's famous put down of Dan Quayle....
