1. He'll never get on the ballot.

2. He's a major narcotic user.

3. A serial abuser of women.

4. I wouldn't waste such an important thing as a vote on that waste of space

I'd never vote for him myself but I do take issue with not being able to run without being sanctioned by a party or councils.

It's a democratic Republic we live in and this is the only head of position that is actually voted for by the people. Any citizen should be able to run, council and party support be dammed. The people will decide.

That being said, a person is smart, people are stupid.

get your point but respectfully disagree…

There needs to be some degree of process to enter a Presidential candidacy otherwise it would be a free for all…. Guarantee you if it was an open ballot you’d have Dustin the Turkey and Someone dressed up as a Bin running which is great fun etc but undermines the office and ultimately costs money and time….

Oireachatas members can also nominate and individual or 2 county councils but at least that maintains some degree of qualification required to run, like a basic understanding of the office, an understanding of the constitution for which you may need to approve amendments too, a basic grasp of English and Irish languages none of which Conor McGregor has. I think Bots have taken over X / Twitter spouting crap about McGregor being President all bull crap.

I think an Irish independent poll last year indicated that c. 7% of people would even consider voting CM even if he did receive a nomination. He’s getting all of this publicity for nothing.

As a cohabiting partner of more than 5 years with children she has pretty much equal rights to any wealth accumulated during their time together.

Perhaps she would make a good president. Having put up with what she has had to shows a strong level of resilience.....

"Do we really need a president?"

Do we really need a national flag?

The presidency is a position that represents us as a Irish people here and abroad. Reflecting our values and culture, and saying things we would like to be said in times of celebration or crisis.

It's someone we should be proud of and have faith in.

That's why it's important to me anyway.

"That boy is pure scum. Nothing else. "

Absolutely correct. His family lived a few doors from my cousins. Shower of cunts. Before he was a boxer, he was a little ball of shite in the neighbourhood. If you saw all the decent people that lived around him in the close knit community, you'd know his kind were the scum ruining it.

Crumlin when I was growing up was a hard place, and I mean hard. This fool grew up on stories about it, but he thought that coming from our community made him "The Big Man". What a fucking fool. He can't walk into his own street because of what the really hard men would do to him after what he did to women.

You wouldn't find many people there who like him in any way other than his boxing achievements, and that's at a push.

He bought the Black Forge Inn cause that's what "Crum Gansta's" do. What a knob head.

Reading and listening to debates about the election in the last few days has led me to believe it's Mary Lou's if she decides she wants it.

Unless FG pull Enda Kenny out of retirement or something similar.

At this stage she isn't going to get the taoiseachs office so it might appear beneficial to SF to have her in the park.

Exactly Dom.

Our current president is a nodding head for our political parties, our political parties are nodding heads for the EU. And none of them represent us. Anyone who thinks Ireland is a democracy is a fool, it is a dictatorship where your told to lie down, pay your 52% and shut up when we squander it on a bike shed, e-voting machines, selling off the M50 toll, shutting down BNMona, implementing a temporary (permanent) USC tariff etc etc etc.

The President in Ireland is only but a nodding figurehead, with minimal to no power at all. They sign Bills into Law, Bills that they are told to sign.

Either way I would like to see a successful Businessmen or Businesswoman to take the role, without having to receive nomination from the also corrupt CoCo's.

I do find it slightly amusing to see Irish people take him and his rants seriously.

None of it is directed at you! Everything he says is for an American audience. They lap up that sort of nonsense.

His # are hilarious!

"Thank god not everyone can run for president. He'll need county councils to nominate him. Probably rather him that Mary Lou

Rather him than Mary Lou or Bertie Ahern the man that bankrupt Ireland.

How about Paul O'Connell at least he could beat the shit out of any other president in the world

You'd prefer McGregor to Mary Lou, the leader of a political party, You'd a prefer a man who is found guilty of r#pe, multiple traffic convictions, drug user, Good God

Id rather Paul O'Connell actually.

And do you really want to unearth the shame fein scandals of sexual offences etc, or the financial fraud of Ff and FG. They have betrayed Ireland and it's people for their own personal gain.

There is no current politican in Ireland that would be worthy of the position of president.

But they will push through some nodding head agreeable person to sign whatever is put in front of them without question.

Either way I would like to see a successful Businessmen or Businesswoman to take the role, without having to receive nomination from the also corrupt CoCo's."

....

The irony almost escaped me....😂

I heard on the radio this morning that Dustin the Turkey has thrown his hat in the ring.

Dustin for president.

Don't matter who the president is, it's a waste of time and money!

And it'll more than likely end up being a crony of the current government!

Don’t think anyone really gives a monkeys who is president, it’s just a payoff job for some politicians. Neither mcgregor or Bertie would get my vote. Both are R apists, although Bertie r aped the whole country and charged us for the privilege

Political parties that reflect society at large are always going to have sex scandals at some point. FG, FF, Labour have had them over the years. The smaller parties don't usually have enough representatives for the issues to be come noticeable but they'll still be there.

McGregor is a whole different ball game though.

maybe a lottery system where every Irish citizen enters and we pull out a winner who gets to be president.

It might actually get a better result,

A better result than what? We've had some really excellent presidents in our lifetime.

Better result than the current crop of corrupt shower and if they are not corrupt then they are total idiots that have not called out the corruption. "

What has a presidential election got to do with replacing the government. Also, whether you like them or not, and I don't, they were democratically elected only a few months ago.

When the old Irish Political era came to an end with the retirement of Enda Kenny, it was replaced with the social media generation.

An absolute disater. They have been the worst politicians we've ever seen. The likes of In-Out pension Varadkar, pick me Harris, Mary-Lou and her crew, the PBP professional protestors and the useless SDs and a whole other bunch of fringe grifters.

I've a feeling it won't be long at all until history looks kindly on Berite et al.

And yet all of the names you've mentioned were in the Dáil while Enda Kenny was there. If you're trying to make a point about the place going to hell in a handcart since 2017, ar least name people who were elected since then.

Also, if it's all changed catastrophically since Enda's time how come we have the same two parties in power that we've had since the foundation of the state?

I agree, McGregor is a lost cause, any publicity for him now is still publicity and a method to make money.

Catherine Connolly though, you must be joking, i hope you are joking, a leftist Marxist who would be filleted in the race, it would be fun to watch though.
