If your a bean to cup household, where are you guys getting the good stuff from?

We’ve been using discount coffee for a while and the stuff is great quality and good value but always on the lookout for decent coffee,

We’ve had Velo and Soma before and while they were lovely, price point wasn’t there for us

I was ordering from the Cork Coffee Co. for a good while and was really happy with the quality for that price point.

3fe was my treat coffee if I wanted to spend a bit more.

I’ve been using cloud picker for years now and I find them really good. I can also recommend cork coffee roasters, 3fe and imbue

Only ever had 3fe from cafes before so might be worth a cheeky order, thanks

I do love my coffee but I do find it can be difficult to find nice coffee but I do believe it's as important to have a good machine or if you like doing it the old fashioned way. I did find a lovely bean from a coffee shop in dublin (Groundstate) . The guy there was pretty sound and gave me a sample bag to try at home. I ended up getting a good stash which kept me going for a long time. But as with everything, something different is nice too

I will follow this thread with some interest.

Or bring tons (along with olive oil) when I head home once a year.

Calendar roasters in Galway is excellent. I think consistently better than 3fe, though they have some great blends I think there single origin stuff isn't quite as good.

I do mostly pour over and aeropress, yet to get a proper espresso machine.

Badger & Dodo ..... sadly no connection....are a Fermoy based coffee roaster who produce a comprehensive range of speciality coffees.

Based solely on the name it must be worth a try....🦡☕️

Have had badger and dodo many a time out and about but never clicked with it, found it to be standard, almost like the centra coffee

Yeah badger and dodo is nice but mainly a supplier to regular coffee shops; wouldnt be the standard or variety of the wanky and pretentious roasters.

If you're in Dublin check out brewlab or indigo and cloth... insane stuff they can do with certain roasts

Very funny you should mention that Mrs as I recently got myself a nee ridiculously big coffee cup like yours, complete with a straw. I'd just like to say thanks very much.... I burnt the lips of myself. Needless to say the straw went straight into the bin.

I knew it couldn't be a good idea but I, true to my word, gave it a shot.

I'm trying to quit coffee (Flat whites), and tried today to tone it down with one of those Matcha powder things, seemingly the caffeine is lower and doesn't give you the jitters.

I quite like Badger & Dodo blackwater (barista dependent), Two fifty square, and the old staple Butlers from the cup.

I find the coffee varies a lot across the country and if your barista can do a swan in the cup, you know that coffee is going to be the best it can be on that particular brand.

Cork Coffee Roasters 'Morning Growler' blend. Insomnia always hit the spot too.

Feck, even tesco's French blend through my Delonghi was good.

My neighbour gave out to me for saying McD's have good coffee. Try it. Throw in an extra shot.

Fuck off Costa/Starbucks etc.

Am currently using Silverskin beans and would happily recommend - they're roasted in Dublin so should be easy enough to source.

But, to be honest, the beans themselves are only half the story - every time you try a different brand you're going to need to fiddle with the settings to dial it into your personal taste.

Obviously, the settings are going to depend on your particular machine - all else being equal * the main one is going to be how fine a grind you're using. A finer grind is generally going to yield a stronger espresso.

* water volume, temperature, coffe dosage, brew time, etc

I was ordering beans from "Wonky Coffee" but they may have rebranded to "Odd Coffee" - great value and a lovely dark roast delivered to your door as often as you needed on subscription.

I had to cancel that though as 1 in 3 orders would be late or refunded because they did not have stock.

Now I am buying from a local roaster "Ariosa" - their beans are lovely and not overly expensive. If you are in the North East, highly recommend Rock Salt in Dundalk, not cheap but great quality bean.

It is a pain in the ass when you have to buy a new brand and you waste 5 or 6 cups trying to dial in your grind.
