From previous experience a camper is the way to go. Unless you are going from home directly to a camp site. Try getting parking to do a little shopping in a small town with a car and caravan. A camper allows much more freedom in every sense.

I have a small caravan and I'd rather have a camper. Pros and Cons. A campervan needs maintained and insured for driving. But you can park anywhere. A caravan is cheap to insure (£40 a year) and no fuel costs other than additional weight on your tow vehicle. But a tow bar is needed, and you have to spend money on campsites.

Camper below 3500 kg, can be driven with a B license, above this you would need C.

Can fit a small scooter in the back if garage big enough or just rent a car overseas for out of campsite trips.

Caravans are the cheaper option, but not good for long distance IMO as pulling a trailer over long distance is mind numbing.

Thank you folks, yeah I was leaning towards caravan because you can disconnect it from the car and spin around the place, I was planning on getting a small 1 berth one so it wouldn't be too bad on the long trips!

Was looking at this recently. The 3500kg is the total weight including passengers etc, means you may be very close to your B licence limit. I think a C licence is the way to go. My plan is to try a camper off season before committing. I think the caravan allow you to visit more places and more flexible

I had both and kept the caravan, park up and set up the caravan, head off anywhere in the car, caravan has more room, cheaper, no test, tax, insurance, campers don't get enough driving and can brake down, nightmare to get towed.

Caravans have no n.c.t

We do enjoy the wild camping and for us our camper allows us to do that. There is loads of pub stop overs here in Ireland and in the UK great for campers.
