If you'd to pick 1 book out of anything you've read to recommend to someone, what would it be? Any genre etc, I'm just fishing for recommendations!

Mornings in Jenin.

A beautiful and sad book that gives a lot of context to what’s going on at the moment.

I’d recommend Birdsong. Not particularly long but a very non-putdownable book and yes that’s a word.

Two Rivers

Any genre has me thinking from quantum physics suggestions through to tat!

Currently I am back rereading Jilly Cooper books they are just so stupid one can enjoy the read without having to think too much!

A good classic Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier 1930s I think.

Since this is a swinging/ sex site here are two options:

The Lifestyle by Taylor Hahn. A lawyer in her 30s finds out her husband cheated and suggests ethical monogamous relationship.

Three Women by Lisa Taddeo Non fiction but reads like fiction. Follows three women for 8 years showing the ups and downs of female desires and sexuality.

So many more pop into my head. Looking around my library atm these ones are popping out at me!

Meh

The Perfume - Patrick Süskind. The opening has stayed with me to this day. After having read it over 25 years ago, I can still see and smell all that’s described. Such a good intense book.

I would say viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning.

A vivid account of an individual's experience as a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. The book focuses on love, hope, responsibility, inner freedom, and the beauty to be found in both nature and art as means that help one endure and overcome harrowing experiences.

Not necessarily an easy read but One Hundred Years of Solitude. It's worthwhile and you can see why it won a Pulitzer. My only other recent recommendation would be The Grapes of Wrath.

In terms of recommending authors instead of specific books - I'd say Vonnegut and Philip Kerr if dry wit is to your tastes, and if not you can't go wrong with Charles Dickens!
