Hi there. Anyone got any advice on how to deter seagulls from nesting on the roof of a house. They are very noisy, dirty and loud.

Nesting or just perching on the ridge?

If it’s perching grease the ridge tiles

As far as I remember while there nesting there protected. But any other time not so once they've no eggs get a gat and some blueberries and take aim . Do this enough times they up sticks and move on . I had this problem and asked a lot of people and the maintenance team in St James hospital told me the above. Hope this helps..

I have a slingshot!

Frozen blueberries might be more convincing

I used bird spikes from screwfix and a tube of mastic appropriately called "sticks like shit". Last year I was tormented as Stephen 1 fell then Stephen 2 fell...I had to feed the fkrs until the bird rescue came for them (took a small donation). Funny when the cosied up to a mirror in the garden thinking their family had expanded.

Contact the NPWS. As they are breeding they are protected and can’t be removed

Find a recording of a Seagull distress call and play it. Set up a motion sensor like from a security light with a connection of a recording. I was told many years ago by a friend that the reservoir in Stillorgan had a big problem with seagulls. They caught one and recorded it having its legs pulled off and played it through loudspeakers to keep the gulls away from the water. It might not be true!
