Heading to the States soon for a short trip. Spent a few hours deleting all the Trump jokes, just in case!!! Not overly comfortable going but it's booked since last year. What's ppls general feeling about going to the USA with all that's going on? Filled in all the shite on the ESTA but left off the FAB membership..might twig the DEI police..lol

I think it's disturbing that many people only have a problem with the US since Trump. Its mind boggling.

They're saying bring burner phone or have phone turned off not sure which is best unless you put it in hold rather than carry on luggage

True, not sure I would have agreed with the previous administration on every count. Just feel the current environment is empowering the bullies and so called "bible" purists.

Yeah a few people said that..don't think turning it off would be enough.

I'd say not and it's probably hipe, but it's possible and there are instances of it happening. All it takes is a A..hole of a boarder guard and bye bye trip.

When you fill in the visa forms you give them your social media accounts and agree for them to read them if you get stopped

You're hardly going to argue with an Agent in Dublin airport before you even get on the plane

Dunboyne

Head to New Orleans.

Best food and music in US with a laissez faire attitude that I'm fairly sure ignores Trump

Other states around it maybe not so much!

The West

I flew to New York last week and got grilled because we didn't book our own tickets. They wanted to know every detail about who booked the tickets, how I knew them and why they paid.

They questioned my trans child directly if he goes by the name on his passport. He doesn't. They knew to ask.

This was in line with the Irish gov travel guidance that any trans people travelling need to make sure the gender on their travel documents matches their birthday cert. It did.

I don't have any social media apps on my phone but I put back the ones I have accounts for on the off chance they wanted to have a look. They didn't.

The queue for US pre clearance took an hour.

The upside is that we hit the US border in an Irish airport so if you do have a problem you won't have to book a flight home if you get deported.

I think it's unlikely and I think at least part of what's happening is that the travel guidance being issued is hitting the US tourist industry in the pocket as retaliation.

If your going on holiday and your travel itinerary is in order there's no real reason to worry. Border agents have been fucking people's shit up for years it's just drawing way now attention now and a few unlucky travellers are being made examples of

The sticks

I have zero interest in returning to the US for holidays.....May have to travel for work purposes if we still have jobs in a few months time, not so sure about that but 😬

Would love to see data on future travel bookings for the US,they must be taking a fair hit

Went a few weeks back, the pre clearance is in Dublin so it's not too bad. Didn't question much nd didn't look at phones at all. Young kid so maybe they don't question with young kids. If you are catching a connecting flight in us to final destination generally you won't be questioned again

Going for your E.S.T.A. they look for your social media handles.

Not going back to the states until the Republicans are out of office.

America was in a terrible mess anyway. It's now gone distopian.

I was there in the last few weeks. Preclearence queue took an hour, the actual check was 2 min. The usual questions only, why traveling, how long, where staying.

I was in Florida and did feel the usual "oh your from Ireland" was a bit less than before but otherwise no difference.

You should calm down, enjoy your trip but most importantly when you come back stop watching RTE.
