Who has been? Any recommendations for must-sees or must-dos? Heard that it's a beautiful part of the country. I'm planning a wee trip over the summer in the west and have never ventured beyond Galway city. Would appreciate any advice.

Galway

If you get the weather for it, you’ll have the best time.

I assume you’re driving? If you are, follow the entire wild Atlantic way route from Galway city, through spiddal, over through Camus, Screebe, Kilkerrin, Carna, roundstone, ballyconneely and clifden. Hug the coast on the way out, go search for the little beaches you’ll see in the distance.

Make sure you drive the sky road in clifden.

Plenty of great pubs and restaurants to keep you going during the day.

Mayo

To echo Jaffa’s remarks, hug the coast, take the wild Atlantic way as much as possible, when in Roundstone, cut across to Keenan’s and the Ma’am valley , onto the n59 retur to Galway if you want, alternatively, in lennane and ma’am, a trip across to Cong is beautiful, stop by Ashford Castle on the way. Pm me if you require any further information, I have relations in Connemara, I love it!

Castlerea

If you have the time continue north of Killary Fjord up the Delphi valley to Clew bay and Westport. You can take a westbound boreen off the R335 in the Delphi valley, and meander your way out to White Strand and bits of the coast seldom seen or visited.

Just got back from Clifden. Drove up the sky loop road then to Kylemore Abbey. It was stunning there.
