So the Irish times has a recent article stating that the 80/20 statistic is wildly inaccurate. For not chronically online people, it means "80% of women are attracted to only 20% of men". What are people's thoughts on this? A lot of men use dating app stats in defense of it and lots of others use personal experiences to argue against it.

Okay not much of a discussion so how about, would you believe it's a case of there is a person for everyone? What's the likelihood of meeting that person? I couldn't find something to back either side but I did find an interesting study on dating in the US by the Pew Research Center - A profile of single Americans

Also nonsense. There is compatibility and individuals have greater or lesser levels of compatibility with other individuals. This 'one true person for everyone' is romantic twaddle.

I recently read something about currency and status, and how women are attracted to possibly one or the other ,it was fascinating reading. The status part more so. Now obviously like all information posted by all people, this OBVIOUSLY doesn't mean EVERYONE, I don't pretend to be an expert on everyone and everything.

I think the 80/20 has a place in the market for people that want an easy fix without doing any real thinking. It pops up so much in diets and exercise, and possibly countless places i haven't seen.

If someone can make money out of it I suppose it will be pushed somehow, those who chose to believe it , it might make sense to their story, but those that don't it won't, but it 100% will make sense to some just by straight up coincidence, life's funny like that , even nonsense can be true sometimes.

To say it's bullshit just means it is bullshit to you, no one is saying it's akin to gravity, or evolution, they just say it's out there.

I'm not saying there isn't someone out there for everyone, there are of course many people. I'm saying society clearly isn't organised where there is one true love hidden on the planet for us to find. You know there are 8bn people on the globe (or hexagon if you prefer) so a straight person has approx a 1 in 4bn chance of finding 1 person of their preferred gender. 2 seconds consideration would surely help anyone see this idea is rubbish. Also who is organising this scheme of 1 to 1 perfect matching? Seems like a lot of admin. Is there like a celestial spreadsheet or something?

It's actually worse than bullshit. It breeds misogyny. It's an excuse that allows single men to say that it isn't their fault that they can't attract a partner. It's the fault of the women who are picky and if you aren't rich or powerful then you haven't a hope. That blame ends up in resentment which ends up in hate and eventually and at the extreme, violence.

Anyone that does not take responsibility for their own thoughts and actions is a weak individual, and that is possibly why they have no luck in attracting a partner.

Unfortunately, the ability to actually think for yourself is limited in the modern world. People are so afraid of to go against the group, many many things get passed as acceptable.

Violence should only be used as a last resort to protect yourself or someone from aggression, but you should be capable of aggression when needed.

I find the conversation interesting.

It has a name, the Perato principle. After doing some more research (finding the original study). It is a misconstrued study. From my reading, it's using a series of profile pictures for both sexes where men (66/33) were willing to match with more women based on profile picture appearance than women were to men (the 80/20). It's funny and ironic because on this very site, a profile picture is considered pretty important.

I heard that Starmer might be making it a compulsory watch in UK schools. I haven't watched it yet, I've been told it's a hard watch.

It's not just that. The likes of the Tate's and the changing opinions and attitudes are really worrying with the movement to the right in young people. They struggle with face to face interaction and attention spans, and the easy answers and the ability to blame someone else that are offered by these people and ideas that are really tempting. Fascism begins with the "othering" of someone else who are then blamed for everything that's wrong. Immigrants / women / shared bathrooms / gender politcs etc. Its the same hat hung on different pegs. Our boys in particular are really at risk.

I agree. A woman reporter I listen to often described them as "forgotten" boys. It will be interesting to see how this goes forward.

I'm not seeing misogyny in teenage boys mislabeled. I'm seeing it actually there. This is a reality. We need to educate our sons or someone else might
