somewhere

Just a light hearted look at tech and how sometimes it leaves you behind

My phone....top of the range Android

All I use it for ...phone call ,messages, camera and a few apps

Yet all I read about is the next upgrade that makes things 1/ 500th of a second faster

Camera....all I do is point and shoot

So about 95% of the phone is never touched

Same as my car

Is it an age thing

Do you use all your tech to its full potential

I see vibrators and they can practically make you a cup of coffee after sex

My car has gone 5k over the recommended service interval. It is now giving me more mixed messages than a Trump news conference in tariffs.

Not wanting to be accused of nostalgia but life was simpler when an oil, filter and brake pad change every 10-15k was enough to keep you motoring safely, happily and with a healthier bank balance.

I do try use the camera's AI features and the results that I get does amaze me. But all of the other features on my phone i use every day of the week.

I recently got a new car and the technology in theses new cars is crazy everything works off a touch screen, It even comes with an app that you can subscribe for other features like find my car and an esim to have wifi in the car.

It probably has more features but I haven't found them yet 🤣

Phones seem to be designed for so much now. Most people only use a certain section.

It's like an Excel spreadsheet. Many only use it for very basic tasks. Only a tiny percentage of people really know how to use it to its full potential. (I'm not one of them)

The same could also be said about people's use of this site 😄

I have a standard android and won't change. I use it for emails, calls and pics and fab. The rest of the stuff on it has never been used. Don't do social media apart from whattsapp and telegram and guess what...I'm managing fine.

Half of the things people buy is to show them as a trophy to our friends (status and class). Some do it knowingly and some do it subconsciously as the society expects that from us. Thankfully I learnt it quite early in life that I should buy based on what I need and now what the society expects of me.

Until last year I only ever had a SIM only contract and never paid more than £150 for a handset which I used until it stopped working before replacing.

My car is 10 years old and doesn't even have parking sensors which are unnecessary anyway.

I've never owned big brand products. I bought an 8 year old iPad from a friend a few years ago just because I wanted a tablet for holidays etc. That was the first time I'd had an Apple id.

I know people who live their lives by their fitness trackers and have to hit all their daily targets or they get pissed off.

I have a cheap smart watch but can't tell you the last time I checked my steps.

Phone is used for everything from emails to online banking, social media, music, podcasts,a gallery of photos from the last decade and numbers I should probably delete

And of course used for messages texts calls

We used to clock in and out on our phones too until it became an issue

I'm due an upgrade and I'd to stick it in a bag with silica gel last week

I buy what I need at the intersection of what I can afford.

For a phone I want a good camera so I buy the Pixel A series on sale every three or four years. I'm on the 8a now. I had 2a and a 4a. Pixel phones come with 8 years of updates too so that's good value for the money.

I want about eight years out of a laptop so I try to future proof a little by having more RAM and adequate storage. Most failures happen to me in the first three years so I always buy the extended warranty and have used it every single time.

My car is a 2010 VW. No digital anything and reliable AF.
