Hi All,

I’m not being rude, but I’d like advice on this issue.

The step brother is getting married 31st of October to a person who I know long before he did and this evening she hid inside in the clothing section of Dunnes Stores from me and I have told the step brother that he’s marrying the wrong person in her as she’s only trouble. He text me back and F… off for myself and he was going considering removing from the groomsmen list and I text back a blank message and now I’ve decided I don’t want to go their wedding.

What would you do in my situation?

Really it's up to himself to figure if she's wrong or not.

I'd make it very easy for him to remove you from the groomsmen list , I'd remove myself, simple .

You have done your part now OP, you warn him off her.

He is an adult and will need to learn, all you can do now is be there for him when he needs you.

Lina.

In the first place, why would you tell your step brother in the first place. Have hou had a relationship with her or do you just not like her??

Whichever way you look at it, you have now alienated yourself from him and her and who knows how many other family members. By texting him in first place, you have left yourself wide open to criticism. Surely it would have been better to have a quiet word with him in private expressing your concerns.

Myself and another mate shared our concerns over a mates future wife, he wasn’t happy when we did, and we’d be all like brothers, v close since kids but he fell out with us and the group. We didn’t slate her or call her names or immature stuff like that. Approached it gently. He chose to move forward. Extremely nasty divorce , Family ripped up , home had to be sold etc.

It all went south with their marriage, terrible , all her fault and we haven’t seen or heard from him in yrs.

So now I let people on , don’t get involved regardless.

Hold up. I'm a bit groggy today but you've told him he shouldn't marry her because she hid from you in the clothing section of Dunnes? Am I missing something?

She normally shops in M&S and didn't want to be seen in Dunnes.

I've pieced this together...

OP is the former Irish hide-and-seek champion but recently lost his title in dubious circumstances.

This action by the future sister-in-law was seen as rubbing salt in the wounds as such and the thoughts of her being part of the family and continuing this type of piss taking is causing bitterness in the OP.

(It's probably something else though)

It sounds like you’re in a tough spot, and it’s understandable that you’re feeling frustrated. If I were in your situation, I’d take a step back and consider a few things before making a final decision:

1. Ask Yourself if Attending is Worth It – If you’re not comfortable with the wedding and feel strongly that he’s making a mistake, skipping it might be best for your peace of mind. However, if your absence will create more long-term family drama, you might want to reconsider.

2. Let Time Cool Things Down – Right now, emotions are running high. Instead of making an immediate decision, give it a bit of time. If you still feel unwelcome or unwilling to go in a few weeks, then it’s fair to decline.

3. Avoid Further Conflict – Sending a blank message after his harsh response was a good way to avoid escalating things. It might be best to leave it at that rather than engaging in more back-and-forth.

4. Decide How You Want to Handle Future Family Relations – Even if you disagree with his choice, if you value your relationship with your stepbrother, it might be worth trying to keep the peace rather than burning bridges. That doesn’t mean pretending to support something you don’t believe in, but rather keeping your distance without creating more drama.

If you genuinely don’t want to attend, you can simply let them know you won’t be going without getting into a fight about it. Something like:

"I’ve thought about it, and I don’t think it’s the right thing for me to attend. I hope the day goes well for you."

That way, you keep it neutral and don’t add fuel to the fire.

My town

She hid inside the clothing room ? How you know she's hiding. Changing rooms do have a level of respect and dignity. You can't start undressing in a shop. And they not unisex Changing rooms so this makes no semce.

I know I'm a simplistic creature but if I copped someone trying to hide from me in a shop, my natural train of thought would be that they don't want to talk me. I'm not sure I'd then make the leap to them being a wholly unsuitable marriage prospect

If I told all my friends before they were getting married that they were marrying the wrong person, they'd be single today... which they are now anyway which makes me now ponder if I am Confucius?

Anyway, let's not cloud over the topic of good places to hide in Dunnes Stores...

- Because if Oscar The Grouch from Sesame Street has taught me anything, bins can a be a good place (providing they're the one's Dunnes are selling )

- You can try lying on the ground beside a Cashier and tell them you've just lost a valuable contact lens.

- Also beside said Cashier you might spot a spare staff uniform on a shelf that you can wear as a disguise

- Also under the duvets on the display beds but if she's got a past like you describe and finds you there you might not have such a happy ending

....or then again, maybe you will

Anyway, who's hiding on who and has anyone got any other useful places??

Some dude spouting about being punished for bad grammar, how about punishment for badly half telling a story that asked for an opinion.

My response would be go to the wedding, but hide from her, give her a taste of her own medicine.
