"Don't even get me started on Aldi's dry roasted peanuts. In all likely hood it may be the most egregious snack based crime against humanity in our lifetime." I find the Lidl nuts nicer but even then the salted peanuts aren’t as salty anymore.

"It all started when they took the alcohol out of gripe water. It's been downhill since. Cadet Shandy, late seventies, 0.2% alcohol but they had to take even that from us. Bastards! ![]() Cadet used to do it in bottles back in the day. I'm half wondering now if it was Cadet or a relatively local drinks manufacturer that did it in the little bottles? It was dirt cheap but it didn't seem to be around for long. I remember we used to buy it on the way home from U12 matches. I think by the time I got to U14 it had already gone. The Club Shandy seems later to me and a much more polished product, as well as being twice the price. ![]()

Bastards! ![]() ![]() There used to be a load of other smaller drinks manufacturers dotted around the country. Beside us in the northwest we had Drino and close enough in the other direction was Cavan Mineral Waters who made that glorious drink known as Cavan Cola... Had a head like Guinness with a possibly vanilla flavour? Glorious stuff! There was at least two more smaller companies supplying into the area at the time.
