Age-based message restrictions

Lads, is it just me or is the whole age restriction thing on here crazy?

I’ve stalked many accounts where a guy is 40, but looks like a 60 year old! It’s really a question of genetics as opposed to age surely?

I run regularly, dress well, take care of myself as well, but settings prevent me from contacting a lot of accounts because of a number!

Seems crazy that people use age rather than condition (for want of a better word) determine who can and can’t message them.

Slightly frustrating too I have to say.

Rant over 😔

100% agree age is only a number and ok to a certain age gap it's unrealistic but so are some of the age restrictions on some profiles. Like say I'm 49 today and 50 tomorrow so I can take to you then but now 🙈🤣

At the risk of sounding repetitive I didn't sign up here until I was 52 and never once had a conversation about my age and never felt I was missing out on anyone because of their age.

I'm one of those who uses age as a filter because I have no interest in meeting or even chatting to anyone close to my kids ages.

I don't care what they look like or how hot others might think they are because my preference is not to engage with them at all.

I wouldn’t say it was a rant, probably more frustrating. Age filters are good. I’m not looking for an eighteen year old, so I have my lower age bracket set. I’m sure most right thinking men and a majority of women want a specific age group that they want and hence, age preferences. I’m sure people lie and say they are a different age to what they really are or use a photo that was taken in Santa Ponsa in 2002 but they get found out fairly rapidly. It’s not all about looks and running and being fit, there’s got to be a heartbeat under that pussy or cock that you’re connecting with.

Firstly, preferences are preferences. My upper age limit mostly relates to how close to my parents age I want to go when meeting someone…you, for instance, are only 6 years younger than my mum and that is too close for comfort for me.

Similarly, some people will have a lower age range which reflects the age of their kids.

Best to focus on people who are looking for people your age rather than lamenting over those who don’t.

Also, someone peoples age ranges are not fixed in stone and if you were to meet them at a social etc, things might be different. So put yourself out on the social scene and enjoy fab.

I can't think of a single dating app that doesn't have an age filter.

And that's all it is, a filter. Sure it's possible that there are people outside of your filter that might be compatible but the whole idea of a filter is to reduce the available options to a manageable number. It's not there to exclude you in particular.

The good news is that social events, clubs and private parties have no such filters once your in the door. If group events suit you, maybe try that approach.

Yes they are but the actual subject was about age preference which is also ok but just frustrating when it's only maybe a year either side but that's up to the individual they decide for a reason.

So, I get the point you’re making.

My point is, there are guys on Fab who could well be in their late 40s, but genetics hasn’t allowed them a graceful aging process, and despite their age, they could well look as though they’re the same age as your father.

I just feel age is a crude filter is all.

It might occasionally be frustrating due to the way ages works, one day you're fine, the next your too old. However, it's just not possible to filter by "condition" so age is the closest option.

Also, people can filter whatever way they like and that's their decision.

Finally... Ah sure look.

It is and that’s why we apply certain filters, because without them, it would be very overwhelming and we’d likely miss out on people we’re actually interested in.

That's a bit of a back handed diss. Imagine me complaining about age filters and saying some women in their 40s look older than my mother 🤣

People use filters, most have a firm grasp on what they like and seek. And some do reach out to those who are over and under their age filters if there's something there attracts them.

Preferences are preferences and people will filter by age, height, sexual orientation, geography, profile pic, facial hair, ability to accomodate or travel, body type, relationship status, penis measurement, lack of verifications or any other preference they may have.

Age is absolute and while some on here input an incorrect date of birth to try and defy the passage of time it is somewhat pointless, as the whole concept of the site is for people to meet and engage in play activities and what's the point in messaging and chatting with someone as a prelude to that if the ultimate aim was never going to be achievable because of the other person's preferences which will become glaringly obvious at an actual meet.

"Not my type" or "no chemistry" can be a polite way of saying "waaaaay too old" in a case where the age gap becomes an issue after meeting someone.

Better that the preferences are clearly stated so that those not qualifying can move on.

Frustrating, definitely, but there are also many people on here happy to have 18-99, or other relatively less restrictive age preferences, and as no one is ever going to get to "ride the whole site" there should be sufficient profiles without age restrictions for those who wishe to get to meet suitable people to have fun with.

Embrace your age.

Lots of people find maturity to be an attractive asset.

Find your tribe to share your fab journey with.

We need to filter in some shape or form or it'd be a fucking free for all

Does that mean some people I might otherwise actually really like are unable to message? Absolutely. But I won't lose sleep over it.

To those that say they miss out because they're a year over or under, what do you suggest? Because if we change it up or down a year then someone else is the wrong side of the cut-off. Or is that ok because it's not you?

As always, concentrate on those who want to meet your demographic.

I've found that everyone seems to expect women to be into older men.

And I'm not.

Out of all the people I fancied, I have observed literally all of them have been very close to my age.

Plenty of older men are objectively good looking. But I haven't ever felt drawn to people to I really feel are a different generation.

That's why I have age preferences. Finding someone suitable on Fab is exhausting as it is.im going to narrow it down to people I am.most likely to feel interested in.

Age isn't a crude filter. It's the most common one.

Most free dating apps let you filter by age and distance and that's it. There's a reason for that.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it crude.

Those younger people can message you if they want.

I have age filters but they are proportionate, I would be flexible on that, as in if I was attracted to them. Body shape is by FAR more important to me and I guess many men on here. For me body shape is the most important aspect and that attracts me more than age, I understand exactly what OP is saying. If someone takes care of their appearance their age becomes irrelevant, whereas someone could be overweight and in the age brackets and I won't be interested. We all have our preferences and even if others don't like our reasons, you must respect them, as that's the whole idea of this place. If it's good for the goose it's good for the gander.

Like someone else said , if they like you they will contact you regardless of age.

There's quite a lot of unattractive traffic on the forums , but everyone is entitled to get their opinions off their chest, even your opinions get out there, whether appreciated or not.

I think OP should open up his photos and ask everyone do they think he looks 56 ?

Co. Cork

My age preference is set slightly inside the upper and lower limits allowed by the site. (I don't want to come across as a total fabslut...🤣🤣🤣🤣).

The only issue I have with age on fab is when I have exchanged verifications with significantly younger ladies that I have met, (yes, some younger than my own children 😱😱😱) they have received some very nasty messages from "younger guys" who obviously are upset that a grandad is "getting more" than they are. Hence my sometimes negative response on threads from younger guys wondering why they cannot get to meet "older" ladies.

I now advise younger fabbers that I meet not to exchange veris to save them from receiving nasty messages from jealous losers.

You learn by experience how to ride the rollercoaster of fab and that you will never get to ride those outside whose preferences you remain.

🔥👴

😂🤣😂🤣😂

"...some do reach out to those who are over and under their age filters if there's something there attracts them.

And now we wait...

🤣🤣🤣

One of these day Michael. One of these days... 🫶"

Yay! That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me here!

"Firstly, preferences are preferences.

"

"Exactly the same reason why you wouldn’t want to be messaged by someone under 35."

Thanks LaTina, I’ve no filter in place to block messages from anyone though, so I haven’t prevented anyone from contacting me.

As I’ve said, I feel that the Fab experience is VERY different for guys than it is for girls.

I see ya Kaz, but as I said, anyone can contact me, there’s a difference in what I’m looking and blocking using a filter on messages.

I do agree with you though, you seem cool AF!

"It always seems to be men who fall outside of upper age brackets that whinge the most about said age brackets 🤔

It’s far from attractive tbh.

There's quite a lot of unattractive traffic on the forums , but everyone is entitled to get their opinions off their chest, even your opinions get out there, whether appreciated or not.

Seems crazy that people use age rather than condition (for want of a better word) determine who can and can’t message them.

Tbf a fat filter would be much harder to enforce

I always ask for BMI and resting heart rate up front.

I want that sweet spot between binge watching an entire box set with all the snacks and enjoying a 500m sea swim in 5° water.

You're right in that most men dont need to filter messages as they don't get the same hassle of dealing with the mail (if left unfiltered) that many women get.

I use stupid things in my head as filters so to me age is the best filter to be honest

It gives me people that I can have a conversation with not just to stare at their bodies

Happy 100th birthday in advance BM 🎂"

I'd slap your ass for saying that Kaz....except you'd enjoy it

Nothing wrong with being hungry, but when all you want is a quarter pounder and someone comes along whining that all he has is a fillet-o-fish and you really should change your preferences, that it can become problematic.

I don't think it matters how you look even if you look younger than your age. You're still your age and if people don't want you messaging them then they have every right to keep their filters to their preferred ages.

Age is not a number despite what people say.

If someone wants to message people who are outside their set filters they can .I know I have at times. But I prefer to keep my filters tight so that I'm not inundated with messages from people who I know I've no interest in chatting to or meeting. It saves us both time. Plus when I am meeting I prefer to message first anyhow.

People on here seem to send more time moaning about other people's preferences because they don't fall within them. Maybe if people spent more time looking at the people who's prefences they fall within they may have a more enjoyable experience on here.

How can people assess your 'condition' when you have no public photos? 🤔

All it is op is personal preference and if a person decides that they want to expand their ranges maybe they want to do it on their terms meaning they will contact someone outside of the range so they can chat without being bombarded by lots of new messages from people if they expanded it first
