Worst Journey in Ireland

With my job I do a lot of Driving,

Here’s my top 3 worst places to Drive either too or around in.

1. Donegal, the way I go is up and down hills and with gear I got sometimes even in First I doubt I’m going to get up them!

2. Galway City, why do ye have 3 lanes and 4 of them go separate ways, the amount of times I have been caught out thinking I’m in the right lane! Not to mention the 100+ traffic lights and after 4pm forget about it. Nightmare.

3. Cork City, the lay out on the canal is absolutely dreadful. If I’m not staying in the Kingsley I’m going home. Traffic lights every 100m also 3 lanes but there’s a certain point where these lanes disappear.

Whats your least favourite drive?

And why!

Cork

I don't drive outside of the county much but I'll admit Cork is a travesty and a great example on how to not plan a city. Cork city centre is a combination of one ways, horrendous parking and admittedly impatient/horrible drivers. Any plan to relieve traffic is 20 years late and arguably more troublesome.

When driving in Irelands Bermuda triangle. That area in Meath / West Meath/Cavan.

As far as infrastructure goes, the Celtic tiger just jumped straight out over it. The council literally paved a few cow tracks 100yrs ago and never came back!

Meath is either smooth sailing or your on a road built for horse and carriage with a lorry coming towards you. If your not near a town start praying

On a serious note.... The speed limit is reducing to 60 kph where it used to be 80 kph.... Most tractors are going to be impossible to overtake legally as mist are travelling at 55 kph😡

I used to live in Cork City... Lived in rochestown and kids in school in Douglas. It's a max 10 min drive in normal traffic but for the school run in the mornings if we hadn't left the house by 7.45am we would be late for school starting at 8.50am. Such a fucking dose. Just sitting in traffic and crawling for an hour. So glad I moved away!

"The skelig loop in kerry it was two way thank god it's now one way. It's is still the scariest road in Ireland .

It has sheer drop to the Atlantic ocean protected by a 12 inch high dry stone wall. Bring several changes of underwear if driving it."

Brilliant drive, scary in a camper van, the views of Scellig on a fine day make it all worth while

Can we please not mention Adare. It's too traumatic. I once stuck in a traffic jam starting just after the M20 goes into the N21. Added nearly an hour to my journey to get past Adare

Basically any road after you leave Sligo. We have the misfortune of being surrounded by Donegal drivers who do nothing but speed and overtake dangerously.

Mayo drivers who pull out onto the main road right on front of you when you are going at 100km per hr and they sit at 40km per hr.

Then there is Leitrim and Roscommon, need I say more the only parts of Ireland stuck in the years 1980 to 90s and both with the most boring landscapes of the entire West / North west.

This post is only meant to be a bit of satire no insults intended.

You sir are a cad and a scoundrel, which is hardly surprising given that you're from Sligo.

Roscommon is shite, I'll give you that, but Leitrim has beauty in abundance.

Pistols at dawn, scoundrel, or I will deem said scurrilous remark to have been withdrawn!

I've been nearly wiped clean of the road by lunatics overtaking on the N21 a few times. There's something about that road. Probably Cork people.

....

As the N21 is the main route between Limerick and Kerry is it not far more likely to be someone from either of those counties.

Perhaps as the SawDoctors would have us believe the N/M17 is the place to be.

There was a lad from Edenderry in court in America a while back. When the judge asked him where he read from he said "Edenderry, your honour"..

"Never heard of it" says the judge, "what state is it in?"

"Oh be jaysus" says your man, "it was in an awful state altogether when I left it"

The Naas to Enfield road is not great either, Jesus we may make a compilation of this form and send it into the council!

They are probably overtaking you as they can see by your driving that you are unsure of where exactly you are and that's the reason you are holding up other traffic....

I drive alot around Ireland too and by far the worst road is that stretch from macroom via millstreet onto charleville. Oh and all of Cork City and all of Dublin city centre. Galway to Donegal is a pain in the hole too.
